Trump: 'I'd run in there' to stop school shooting even without a gun

President Trump said Monday he would have entered the Parkland, Fla., high school where a shooter killed 17 children and adults even if he did not have gun, referring to the four armed deputies who waited outside the building while the attack unfolded.
"I really believe I'd run in there even if I didn't have a weapon," Trump said during a meeting with Republican governors at the White House.
Trump has proposed arming teachers in response to the shooting, which has reignited a national conversation about gun control and school safety.
The president said on Monday that he had lunch with National Rifle Association leaders over the weekend and conveyed that the NRA executives had expressed their shared desire to "do something" about gun violence.
He spoke in the wake of mounting criticism against the Broward County Sheriff's office, who's four deputies waited outside while the shooting took place. Sheriff Scott Israel defended that failure to act over the weekend, and said he has provided "amazing leadership" to his office.
