Roy Moore's campaign launched a last-minute court battle late Wednesday to block his loss in Alabama's special Senate election from becoming official.

Democrat Doug Jones defeated Moore, a Republican former justice of the state Supreme Court who was endorsed by President Donald Trump, in the Dec. 12 election to assume the Senate seat of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Moore has refused to concede the election, which he had been widely expected to win before allegations of sexual misconduct with underage girls emerged late in the campaign. Moore has denied all of the allegations.

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill said he has no intention of delaying the canvassing board meeting.

"It is not going to delay certification and Doug Jones will be certified [on Thursday] at 1:00pm and he will be sworn in by Vice-President [Mike] Pence on the third of January," Mr Merrill said.

In the complaint, Mr Moore's attorneys noted the higher than expected turnout in the race, particularly in Jefferson County, and said that Mr Moore's numbers were suspiciously low in about 20 Jefferson County precincts.

92% voter turnout of any party in any state in any election is virtually unheard of. So no voter fraud to be assumed? Yea right! No matter what anyone thinks of Roy Moore, voter fraud needs to be taken serious or we loose the foundation of this country.

That 92% figure was the percentage of democratic voters casting ballots in the special election compared to those in November 2016 - not their total voters.  The overall turnout of their voter base was nowhere close to its maximum.

It’s pathetic how some have to hold on to this notion of cheating as an excuse for the defeat of a joke candidate.

But it has a lot to do with potential and actual voter fraud!

92% of the turn out for a presidential election in a special election is also unprecedented!

I don't blame him either.  He expended money, time and energy and should have won.  Everyone knows there was voter fraud.
