@ musiclady @Sanguine @mystery-ak

I asked very politely once already today how the word ""illegal""  became bad.  My post was censored by the management here without explanation and I  ignored that.  In the hours since,  I have given that much thought and determined that if such subjects cannot be intelligently discussed here I am wasting my time here.  Time for you to decide Nancy.  Either they can or the can't.  If your answer is that they cannot then please be kind enough to  delete my account and forget that I was ever here.

Edit to add that there is a much larger issue in play here than just a single word.

If you can't understand that the word used is pejorative and demeaning, and it is most certainly NOT the word "illegal." then you need to wake up.

And if you think that the nasty insults you've flung at me today was your being "polite," you're in bad shape in more ways than one.

Nancy has the perfect right to keep this forum both conservative and decent, and that's exactly what she's doing with this decision.

Grow up.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

I’m for individuals deciding to use restraint in their choice of words. Conversing in an open forum is like dining at a large banquet. Don’t embarrass your spouse in front of the other diners.

I’d rather not have management censor the occasional slip of the tongue. However, if it becomes abusive, that’s another matter and stronger measures are justified.

Whatever words I may choose to use reflect on no-one other than myself .

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

You make an important point here @Victoria33 .

Fear of the rhetoric of the campaign is why some illegals left (not a bad thing, obviously), but not the reality of the policy enacted.

What are the statistics for South American and other countries?

This is all such BS from some of the most respected Briefers here, making a stand on this and blaming Myst for some type of censorship here.  The very fact that yall are willing to draw a line on such bull$hit is unfathomable.

******For the Guests here the problem word is not 'illegal' it is w*e*t*b*a*c*k, a term I've used as a Texan since Eisenhower, like Negro, it has become very unfashionable and I, like many here, can discuss this serious problem affecting out Country without using what are considered derougatory terms, circa 2017.

I removed the censor on said word. The only reason it was censored is that members used it in a derogatory manner which will not be allowed.

I do not approve of this disgusting term...

A problem these days is the vocabulary in shrinking by the day.

Commonly used term one day, forbidden the next by the "political correct speech police."

(We DID have a Negro Baseball League, we still do have a United Negro Colleges, etc.)

I had lunch Dec. 9th with some high school classmates, and they jokingly still refer to themselves as "Mexicans," "Chicanos," "Latinos" and yes even "wetbacks."  Vietnam combat vets, conservatives too.

Maybe we are just more casual out in the Southwest from Texas to California where Hispanics make up over 1/3 of the population, and many towns have been thusly named from the start.

"Mulattos," are one mixed race people in Spanish language locations. Likewise "Mestizo."

Who is calling these shots?

I am not trying to be the *speech police* far from it.

Some words ARE disgusting and uncalled for.

It's not easy running a forum...some words some find offensive while others don't...who decides is a good question...at TBR it's me.

Thank you Nancy.  Sorry to bother you with such as this when you are not feeling well but this is important.

That word has  been in common use in many parts of this country for a very long time and even by those it refers to.  I would like to know how it, and frankly, a lot of other words,  suddenly became "bad" in recent years.

All I will say. We know, some of us have relatives, maybe even ourselves that have said words that 50 years ago were in common usage but not nowadays. At least, that's my opinion. Example, Janis Joplin and many others used some words in the '60s even.

I won't go into the word in question. I can see at a minimum, it would or could be controversial today. I'm not really critical of one side or another, I understand the view. Now, if Ike's program is brought up, that is a bit of a conundrum.

It's a slippery slope whenever you start banning "certain words".  It reeks of the same brand of mania that has resulted in the removal of statues, the renaming of schools, and other similar asinine actions that have been taken recently by folks with their panties in a wad (perpetually, I'm betting).

I am against censorship of words that are not considered vulgar here.  And keep in mind that some of us actually post on political forums where the "f" word is used (or overused...lol) regularly.  Ergo the occasional slip up.

Let's not let this type of mania get carried away.... or carry us away... here, please.  It's a nice forum.  Hope it stays that way.

Thx.

How about you taking your own advice.  I'm well aware of your feelings on the matter. But I asked another question entirely and you know that as well.

What question??  You've been behaving like a jerk to me all day, and calling me stupid, and worse.

I never said anything about the word "illegal" being a bad word, so as far as I can tell, you're just continuing to behave badly.

What's happened to you anyway??  Are you the same person who offered to pray for my son in law?  Or have you become a pod person who treats other people like dirt just because they don't agree with you??

This is a civil forum, and the efforts of the Mods to keep it that way are admirable.

What exactly are you trying to prove by this name-calling idiocy??

Well, I may be the forum prude, but if that word is used frequently and permitted here, I'm gone.

There needs to be someplace in the world of politics where decency prevails, and this has been IT.

Oh FGS y’all.  All this stink because one member said “wetback”?  If I had a conniption every time I heard that word, that’s all I’d do.  It is common language in my neck of the woods, used by Mexicans as well.  If they’re fresh out of the river and haven’t learned the local lingo yet, they use the word “Mojado or Mojada”.  It’s what they call themselves.  It means a “wet person”.  They don’t think it’s a bad word.

Somebody needs to post that it’s no longer a PC word on a billboard up here in Fort Worth in espanol and English; so we all, including themselves, know not to use it anymore.  Who can keep up?

What’s next?  Vato?
