Franken resigns over sexual misconduct allegations
By Jordain Carney - 12/07/17 11:53 AM EST

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) said on Thursday that he is resigning his Senate seat over allegations of groping and sexual misconduct.

Franken said some of the allegations against him are “simply not true” and that others he remembers differently.

“I am proud that in my time in the Senate I have used my power to be a champion for women,” Franken said.

Nevertheless, he said he would be resigning in the coming weeks as a member of the Senate.

Al Franken really seems to believe he's done nothing wrong.

He's basically arguing that he's been marginalized as a Senator and therefore must now step down.

Shorter Al Franken: "I didn't really do anything wrong, Trump and Roy Moore did worse, and it's kind of ridiculous that I have to resign over this, but I am anyway. Bye."

Not sure what Franken's timing -- 'In the coming weeks, I will be resigning as a member of the United States Senate' -- means.

I'll say it again, without even an Ethics Committee ruling we are witnessing an unwise precedent.

But, then again, this is all to take a clear shot at the President.  So let's not gloat.

We are listening to Bill Handel, a popular Los Angeles radio figure. He is a moderate democrat, lawyer, born in South America. Very smart.

He is ridiculing Franken, big time.

Franken is obviously unhappy over being forced to resign by his party.

Nobody liked Franken. That's why he is gone. I can't see how the Left spins this in their favor. They still have the Clintoons around their neck.

I believe that.  I think Franken's moral compass is at a point where he actually does believe that he did nothing wrong; that it was all in fun; that it is normal.

That makes it worse.

What did Handel say about Franken before all this came out.

I have zero respect for people who pile on after someone is down when they knew all along the person was trash and said nothing.

No, we can gloat and I intend to.  The dems will take all the shots they can at the President and outing Franken does not give them any ammunition.

What Franken did was Franken.  He's a big old ugly jerk.

This is virtue signaling by the Democratic Party for political purposes.

While Franken's a liberal putz,  I think he got a raw deal.  In the current Pervnado,  the careers of men engaged in three general types of behavior are being targeted:

1.  Sickos -  those who engage in child molestation and other pervy stuff.   These includes Louis CK and, arguably, Roy Moore.

2.  Abusers -  those who exploit a power imbalance to exploit and abuse women.   These include John Conyers,  Harvey Weinstein and, especially and most unforgivably,  Bill Clinton and his cynical, enabling spouse.

3.   Adolescents - those who do stupid stuff like pose for a picture with a female admirer and grab her butt.   That's basically all that Al Franken did,  and as far as I'm concerned, while such behavior is hardly laudable, IMO the proper sanction isn't loss of career, especially if the perp comes clean, apologizes, and promises to behave better in the future.

Franken should haven't have backed down, IMO, but the reality is that the Dems no longer have any use for him, since his replacement, as appointed by a Democratic governor, is more likely to help the Dems retain the seat.  Sorry, Al,  life used to be all shits and giggles but now you're the martyr for Democratic political correctness.

Great point @skeeter   He'll probably refuse to resign as long as Moore is a sitting Senator.

I agree.  I mean people knew what kind of person Franken was when they voted for him.  Seems a bit hypocritical to turn on him now.

She resigned because she said she didn't want tax dollars wasted on ethics investigations, people making fun of her family, and because she's a good point guard and had become a distraction....or something.

You figure it out in this rambling mess with loons squawking in the background.

No matter who Dayton chooses to replace the ever-departing Franken, he will piss somebody off.

Oh and Senator Franken, you are a big, fat idiot. Just sayin'.
