Americans aren’t buying the GOP's tax plan
« on: October 26, 2017, 11:38:54 pm »

In spite of all the GOP hype... the vast majority of Americans aren't buying it.

Whether the GOP's 'tax cuts for the rich' fiasco passes or not... 2018 is being set up to be a bloodbath.

On taxes, Americans aren’t buying what Republicans are selling

" A new Fox News poll, released late yesterday, offered a variety of results on taxes, but among the findings was evidence that 78% of Americans are “frustrated” that “the wealthy are paying too little in taxes.” Another recent Fox News poll found that 59% disapprove of lowering taxes on corporations.

The entire Republican gambit is predicated on the polar opposite conclusions.

A CNN poll released last week, meanwhile, pointed in a similar direction: 52% of Americans oppose the Republican tax reform proposals touted by Donald Trump, while 34% support them.

Indeed, circling back to our previous coverage, if there’s one consistency in recent public-opinion surveys, it’s the fact that the American mainstream doesn’t want Congress to pass massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. This has been bolstered by poll after poll after poll after poll – and yet, it’s precisely what GOP policymakers are eager to do. "

I spoke directly with my congressman's office today...
to the one who is supposed to be the 'go to' guy for
all things tax reform.   The guy was totally clueless.
It was obvious he didn't care what my opinion was
and even when I convinced him I knew the facts,
he kept saying... "but there will be other things
in the final bill that will "fix" all that."  Really ??
I told him if indeed there was something in the
GOP's bag of tricks that would convince average
Americans to support tax increases for themselves
so the rich elite can get tax breaks... they'd better
release that info now, before it's too late.  Then,
just like "Lying Ted" during the CNN tax debate,
the guy had the nerve to tell me that the GOP's
proposed standard deductions $12,000/$24,000
were "double" the current standard deductions...
which is a BOLDFACE LIE !!  Thanks to that very
enlightening conversation, I finally realized the GOP
is not suffering from lack of information, it's suffering
from insanity.

Ronald Reagan would have had one of his Oval Office conversations with the American people that he was so good at. All we have heard from Trump is tweets blasting Republicans whos votes are vital to get it passed.

Ronald Reagan was the first to give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.
He is also the first one responsible for the taxing of Social Security...
I doubt any average American would have told him to do either.

As for Trump...  I think he is brilliantly following a secret agenda...
but if I am wrong about that... then he's just as insane as the GOP
whose "let them eat cake" tax plan is initiating class warfare.

Here’s the real reason Republicans ‘must’ pass tax cuts for the rich

" The nightmare scenario for them goes like this. Tax reform gets bogged down in difficult questions about whose loopholes are going to be eliminated and how it will all be paid for and fails to pass; Republican voters are enraged and either turn out incumbents in primaries or don’t bother to show up for the general election, or both; then Democrats take back the House and maybe even the Senate as well.

It’s plausible, but there are two different theories about what the Republican base is after and what will incur its wrath. The first is that the base is a populist one, distrustful of elites and eager for policies aimed at the working class. This is the impulse Donald Trump cultivated during the campaign. “Five, 10 years from now — different party. You’re going to have a worker’s party,” he said, railing against trade agreements and promising not to cut Social Security. It was mostly a con, but what’s important is that GOP voters bought it. That would suggest that Republicans need to deliver policies that help working people or they’ll be ousted by a pitchfork-wielding mob."

You don't seem to understand a basic truth, which is that tax cuts for upper income earners don't "give" them anything.  They're simply getting back their own money---money they earned.

Why does that bother you?  Why not applaud success?

By the way, I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to get back with you yesterday.  I did check sources for your claim that Cruz is a liar, and those that agreed with you were liberal.  Like right here.

Do you trust MSNBC to tell the truth about Republican tax cuts?

Why does it NOT bother you that under the GOP's proposed tax plan taxes will INCREASE for many lower and middle income people in order to pay for tax cuts for the rich ??

Much of what the GOP is "giving" in tax cuts...  it will take away from others in tax increases.

The GOP is eliminating inflation-indexed personal exemptions and higher standard deductions that help low and middle income people... to use the money saved from that to help pay for the tax cuts for the rich... just like the GOP wants to use the money saved from eliminating the deduction for state taxes to help pay for tax cuts for the rich.

In short, the GOP is robbing poor Peter to pay rich Paul.

Texas is much better off with Ted Cruz as one of our Senators as opposed to RINO David Dewhurst.

Last I heard Trump said it was off the table...
but some GOP leaders are saying it's still on the table.

It's yet another example of what I just previously posted...
tax cuts for the rich will be partially paid by tax increases on others.

Well since you are farting around here in the middle of a business day I'm guessing you are on welfare, so no worries. You do not have to pay taxes and worry about hikes. As a bonus though the Feds take my taxes I pay and give them to you.

You're Welcome.
