NFL owner who knelt with players during anthem now says 'disrespect' for the flag will not be tolerated
By Rick Moran

One of the most powerful owners in the NFL says that any player who disrespects the flag won't play.

Jerry Jones, owner of the league's flagship franchise, the Dallas Cowboys, was asked to comment on Vice President Mike Pence walking out of the stadium following an anthem protest in Indianapolis.

Once it hits their wallets they care. They have no principles, they thought fans would automatically be on the player's sides.

Headline is factually incorrect. The Cowboys briefly knelt before the anthem...all were standing during the anthem.

Had the Cowboys won yesterday, Jerry never would have brought it up. Jerry sees the season slipping away, and he needs the flag to divert the fandom. No one ever dreamed they'd be 2-3 heading into their bye week, and they'll likely be 4-6 after the next five games.

Cracks in the NFL's wall are appearing...Jerry will be ok as owner of the Cowboys, but there's at least a half dozen franchises in small markets that cannot withstand flat or declining revenues.

Players don't realize they're shooting themselves in their feet, with the salary cap being a function of total revenues. A 10% drop in revenues will hit them hard, at least those whose contracts expire at the end of this year.

You are correct.

I believe Jerry screwed up when he had his pic taken kneeling withe players.  Most people thought he was kneeling during the anthem instead of prior to it, so it sent the wrong message.

I think he is trying to clean up the mess he made.

IMO, it's too late. Most of us in the DFW Metroplex knew that Jerry was too cute by half. We're used to how Jerry does his bidness.

The only thing Jones cares about is money, which he has made a ton of, and plans on making even more.

And as is always the case.... the few (aholes that refuse to stand for the anthem/flag).... muck things up for the many.   Those few are tanking the careers of the ones that have always stood for the flag, too.  It's not fair.  But reality and life never is.

Jones isn't just a moron, he's a deceitful coward, as well.   I was watching the start of the game and was recording it.   The kneeling part was never shown here on tv.  when the cameras started rolling, they showed a huge field-sized flag being unfurled by dozens of people, instead....then focused back on the players standing for the anthem.  They didn't want the kneeling part to be shown on tv.  I'm quite sure that was no axedent.

The overnight ratings for yesterday's game was a 30, and their flagship station raved about what a great rating it was. Last week, these same hosts were saying the game needed to be in the high 30s or more.

Party Pass tickets were being sold on Stub Hub for $6 for the Rams game. Regular prices prevailed for yesterday's game, no surprise...it was the Packers.

I'm not setting foot in Albertsons even with Jason Witten as their sponsor. Jerry and his boys can KMA. However, I won't ruin it for my son and grandson...they're kids. My parents didn't shut off the TV during the Cuban Missile crisis, and the Giants and Dodgers were in a playoff.

If you have ever been in a locker room, there are many ways to sort things out.

In this case, +90% of the players are not disrespecting the flag.  If they truly wished to, let's say 'Direct the Attention', of those who are causing the trouble which might ultimately cost everyone their jobs, they could take care of things.

Don't feel sorry for that 90%.  The fact they have not corrected things means they are complicit.

I feel the same way about Muslims.  Islamoterrorists comprise a very small number of the Muslim population, yet they give all Muslims a bad reputation.  They could take care of the the terrorists if they wished to, but the fact they do not makes them complicit in terrorism.

Ah.... never been in a locker room for male football players.... but I can well imagine that the 90% of players that DO respect the flag/anthem are at a loss for how to handle the few troublemakers there.  It has become so politically correct in this current environment, thanks to the leftists, I can understand why they would be loathe to confront the few.

Nobody loves football more than I do. I hadn't missed a Jacksonville game in 10 years, but I haven't watched since Week 2. Makes me very sad, but until they stop this nonsense I'm gone. I feel like I'd be disrespecting my dad who served 11 years in the Navy and all the others who served alongside him. On the bright side, I'm watching more Navy football and enjoying it!
I, for one, welcome our feline overlords

Hold on now...it's true the players stood when the Anthem was played, but they did so with arms locked "in solidarity" to BLM.  If they had been respectful of the flag their hands would have been over their hearts.  They were not, so, as another poster reckons, Jerry was "too cute by half."

Dolphins required to stand.

With their hands on there hearts or it doesn't count.  This was how it had to be when I was young and saying the Pledge in school, thus it is to be now if they wish to cut the mustard with me.

I don't like Jerry Jones a whole lot, but to his credit, he seems to have been the first NFL owner to say that a player who kneeled during the National Anthem would be benched.  And he said this WAY before all of the full-fledged backlash by fans.

He lost all that goodwill by trying to split the baby Solomon style, by both kneeling and standing, and no hand upon the heart.  His rehabilitation is still a long way off.  Besides, his "speech to the team" about it last season has been debunked, didn't happen.

Same here. Hand to heart. Taught us well in late 50’s Brooklyn schools, even though I didn’t know the language then. And always, I choke up when I hear it beautifully sung.

And the day I gave Old Glory my first hand salute in uniform, that brought tears to my eyes.

Jerruh only made his comment last night to divert attention from the defeat. Had they won, he never would have uttered a single syllable about the flag.

The apologists for the Cowboys in local media is appalling. They still think this is a playoff bound team, despite their inability to catch a ball, or tackle anyone on defense.

Third place, 2 & 3 is "playoff bound?"  They must be expecting a total collapse of the NFC East or something.  2-3 isn't bad, it's Cardinals bad.

You overlooked my point.  Jerry made his policy statement about benching players weeks ago.  He just reiterated it after the game.
