I grew up watching the Chiefs with my Dad and whoever was playing the Cowboys.  My father sorely hated the NFL, the Cowboys, and Murchison for the Texans leaving Dallas and Tex Schramm's part in the NFL/AFL merger.  He and I along with friends would drive to Hillsboro to setup the camping trailer just to watch whatever team was playing here at home against the Cowboys due to blackouts.

My father's best friend and his family were huge Cowboys fan.  His daughter's successful dream was to be a cheerleader for them.  After every Cowboy's win, the phone would ring sending my father into a cursing blue streak knowing it was his friend calling to rub it in.  The first baby gift my father's first grandchild received was from my father's friend --  A Roger Staubach tee.

I thought he might forgive the Cowboys when Jerry Jones bought them, but good ol' Jerry shat upon Tom Landry right out of the gate.  My father might not have been a Landry fan, but he respected him and Jones obviously did not.  He thought the Cowboys got exactly what they deserved in Jerry Jones.

To make matters worse for my Dad, my brother did not follow in my Dad's footsteps, but loved the Cowboys.  He wore the shirts and would roll his eyes at my Dad for not supporting America's Team.  I, on the other hand, was his only cohort as I had more sense than to root for the Cowboys in front of my Dad.  Instead, I avidly listened to his stories about the evil Cowboys, the dastardly Tex Schramm, the "Kill that SOB!"es when Rodger would Dodge, and the never-ending aspersion's cast upon Lance's sexuality whenever the announcer would claim that Rentzel was in motion; although I didn't truly understand what those aspersions actually meant.  I enjoyed every minute of those Sundays spent with my Dad and would give anything if I could hear him hurl a few invectives at the television; although I know that he would not be watching football right now even if he could.  He would be livid with the NFL and the SJW players and would be cussing a blue streak about it all.  Without a doubt.

Loved it.  Love all those family memories.  When the Chiefs were still in Dallas (Dallas Texans) they were our team until they left but we immediately became Cowboy fans.

Not affordable any more but my son went to every Cowboy superbowl and my daughter to three.

My son and I are still AVID Cowboy fans who grew to love Jerry Jones (after hating him for several years)

My daughter drifted away a little after we moved to Hawaii and they had losing years.

I hate, hate, hate to see the NFL ruined by ignorance and politics.  Colossal ignorance from the dumbest millionaire Black player to the coaches who put up with it to the Commissioner.

The Pittsburgh coach claimed he kept all the players in the clubhouse as a matter of unity, but the idiot publicly criticized the one player, and ex-Army Ranger who refused and went outside to salute his flag ... the one he fought for.

Another little anecdote.

My husband was a professional photographer who was sometimes hired to take pictures at corporate events where celebrities were often involved.

He was at an event where Roger Staubach was present and all the executives wanted pictures with Roger, who was always unfailingly gracious.  After the executives had their shot, Bill had someone take a picture of him with Roger.

He called my son who was away at school and told him that he was sending him a personally autographed picture of Staubach.

He sent the picture of him with Roger and autographed it, "Best wishes, Dad."  My son still treasures that.

Yes, great memories we have.  My aunt and uncle bought season tickets for quite a few years.  I got to go to quite a few games/. Both my aunt and uncle are gone now.  I'm glad they won't have to see what has happened to football as they loved it, the Cowboys, and the Oilers.

I think this could be the beginning of the end of the NFL.  I hope not, but it doesn't look good.  I know they're working on helmet technology such as MIPS to reduce brain injuries, but Mamas no longer want their babies playing on the field, much less growing up to be Cowboys.  If they don't get rid of that SJW Commissioner, I think the NFL is done.  He has made mistake after mistake for quite a few years now.

This mess, along with every other stupid thing going on in this country right now, has made me nostalgic for the "good ol' days."

What a wonderful story!  That is hilarious.  I can imagine how much your son treasures that photo.  LOL

Thanx, y'all ... I got a million of them.  Hah.

Next time I'll tell y'all about riding up in an elevator with Don Meredith.

Whatever you think of the Cowboys, we've had the greatest, most colorful quarterbacks over the years.

Dandy Don Meredith; Roger Staubach; Troy Aikman, Tony Romo.

And we sure have the most quarterbacks who were also successful broadcasters ... from Don on the classic days of Monday Night Football to Troy, one of the top TV announcers and now Romo has made a dazzling debut that has everyone in awe over his charm and football knowledge.

I agree completely which is why it would be an unfortunate unintended consequence of Trump's actions.  Truly sad if it comes to that especially since it was so avoidable.

We've had our collective heads in the sand for too long, while we allowed the Left to take over Hollywood and Academia and now Sports.

We didn't "allow" it,  we couldn't have stopped it.   It was a function of social conditions beyond our control.  Believe it or not,  Hitler was responsible for a great deal of our societal crash.  For that matter,  some of the blame can be traced back to Woodrow Wilson and his decision to get us into WWI.

No it needs to be quashed before it gets that far.

What exactly...do you suggest?

IMO, Donald Trump is the perfect POTUS to deal with this nonsense, if it should ever rise up in the military.

This whole kneeling for the anthem thing went on all last year (when Obama was still president remember, Appalled?) as a protest against the police, which never made much sense since the national anthem has never been linked in the public's mind to their local police forces.

What Trump just did was take a page out of the Left's playbook. He took that protest of the police (does the guy in the street remember anymore that that was the start of it?) and turned it into a protest against not the police but against the anthem itself, and then he conflated the anthem protest into a protest against the flag, the military, and America itself. And then he baited the MSM/Dems into what he knew would be their knee-jerk reaction--into supporting a protest against America.

Now the Left has found themselves caught in a dilemma with no upside. They either have to continue their support of the anti-America protesters and kiss good-bye all those lofty plans on how they were going to win back the working class vote. Or they can denounce the protesters and piss off the one voting block they absolutely cannot afford to lose if they ever hope to win another election.

Yes, what Trump is doing is cynical and ruthless, (and just the thing the Left used to be so good as doing against us). It's how they've managed to win so much ground in the Culture War. But this time their tactics were used against them, and it is going to cost them bigly.

I'm comfortable agreeing with this opinion.

Not just his decision to get into WWI, but his re-segregation of the military and a number of other "progressive" items.

I knew about the top one and those cadets were punished for that stunt.

I hadn't seen the other two.  But I hope the WP system of Cadet punishment was just as swift for them as well.

More on the Communist Che-loving West Pointer:
Quote
As the discourse rolls on regarding former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick‘s decision to take a knee during the national anthem–and the movement his protest ignited–support for the blacklisted athlete-cum-activist is sprouting up across the country.

Yesterday afternoon, on Twitter, some of that support came from U.S. Army Infantry Officer and U.S. Military Academy at West Point alumnus, Spenser Rapone.

Rapone posts under the handle @punkproletarian and is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Under the hashtag #VeteransForKaepernick, he tweeted an image of himself raising the left clenched-fist of solidarity, support and resistance as well as the message, “Communism Will Win” taped inside of his West Point uniform cap. Also visible in the photograph is Rapone’s Combat Infantryman Badge–meaning he has fought in active ground combat.  ...

Hey Karl you non-magnificiant bastard........

Before making this asinine prediction, did you read about the tanking NFL ratings this weekend?

Trump already won.

No it needs to be quashed before it gets that far.

It needs to be quashed immediately, burned beyond recognition and the ground salted.

And this one, I'm gonna blame on Trump.  He keeps throwing gasoline on this fire and he's made it about him.

These athletes with million dollar bodies and ten cent brains have no idea exactly what they are protesting but they have a vague idea that it's Trump and the unfairness of being Black.

I can't help them with the problem of being an overpaid football player any more than I can help Ashley Judd for throwing her career away.

But this should have faded away of its own weight and Trump just keeps agitating.  Sometimes I think the man is totally insane.

He should be treated like a vampire.  During the day, he's a pretty decent guy and has done some good things.

At night, he becomes this tweeting vampire, clasping every insult and slight to his bosom and letting it out with his thumb.

If he could be locked in a dungeon with no electronics at bedtime and only let out at 9 AM, the world and the party would be a better place.
