  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Plenty of ridicule by all parties being tossed around here. Everyone needs to stop worrying about the other guy & mind their own character.
I'm sure both sides will claim it, but self defense is where the 'other guy' becomes a relevant factor.

In the absence of attacks, there can be civil discourse. Let someone point a claw, and it gets as 'real' as any discussion forum can. Of course, the claw-pointers know that is a good tactic to disrupt any conversation that doesn't go the way they like.

It is a tactic similar to tipping over the chessboard when losing, and it happens a lot around here, unfortunately.

Yeah, and getting in the middle is like being a cop stuck between two antagonists in a domestic dispute. Calling for peace got me roundly trashed at TOS and basically ended my 18 years there. So I've heard from both sides.

I wasn't sure what NPR was, so I looked up the definition.  There were two possibilities that made sense.

It is either "National Public Radio" or "Nuclear Posture Review".  I'm still not sure which one it is.  /sarcasim

I was there, and being reasonable is put on the shelf once the site is committed to a candidate, and often before. This last time around was particularly bad, and any issues raised against the eventual candidate were shouted down before Super Tuesday. Moderation there was grossly unfair, ignoring egregious violations of supposed policy. Here, your opinion isn't the issue, but personal insults are off the table, so civil expression of whatever is more important. That doesn't mean there won't be disagreement, just that someone isn't supposed to call the poster a "poopy head" while they disagree.

I got banned for saying that Rubio showed integrity in backing Cruz after he (Rubio) dropped out, despite their differences, because Cruz was the "only remaining conservative candidate."  Apparently, that was considered sufficiently insulting to Trump that I got the axe.

Good riddance of that place anyway.

Actually they do. They provide links to sample tweets and you can click to see each tweeters profile. A couple are pretty high profile too. Many other sources have also picked up the story and linked to other tweets.

But I understand. They are only supporters when it is for the best. When they are an embarassment, they never were supporters. Kind of like a Trump statement. If it was embarassing, then it was just a joke.

I am about to start a movement supporting the banning of all tweeting from anyone for a period of time ... say ten years.

Plenty of ridicule by all parties being tossed around here. Everyone needs to stop worrying about the other guy & mind their own character.

That advice does not fly when electing someone of low character to high office to rule us, because demanding principles be upheld and insisting character matters was said to be a "loser" and not "pragmatic".

It's the efforts that sides take to absolve/justify/massage/excuse the behaviors of their rulers exhibiting bad morals, character and judgment that is the issue being brought up.

Because it negatively affects us all.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Kind of weird.  I spent so many years at 'that place.'  Many of them were very good years.  I'd say it started going downhill in the 2012 election cycle.  People lost respect for each other and for civil discourse and Jim allowed horrible personal insults which started the demise of respect there.

I was for Rick Perry in that primary and I still cannot believe the abuse I took.  I left the site voluntarily but returned at the beginning of this election.  Jim R. was actually a Cruz supporter at the beginning but the wind blew another way there and he began to cater to the majority.

I wonder how FR is doing financially ... they still have a lot of posters over there.

The best time I ever had at TOS (other than the night the fake but accurate TANG memo was outted) was on the George Zimmerman trial thread.   I never had any trouble really with anyone there.... until I started getting attacked for being a Cruz fan and...not being a Trump fan.

It was correct, which added sting to the statement.
I made a couple of posts there which I thought would get me banned (one was hailed as an opus by some here), but for some odd reason, they didn't zot me.
But after a few onslaughts from BFAC, Wendle, and others (organized per the 'Trump Family Ping' thread, in dogpile fashion and following the formula for attacking those who didn't support Trump--still during the primaries) I had griped to no avail. Personal attacks were already blatant after Iowa, and the FRMods had no interest. I'd been around since '99, with about 45K posts.
It's the owner's site and they can run it any way they want. I don't have to be there.
I don't have to be nasty about that, not much point, really.
I went shopping for a new 'home', and was invited here while I was looking. I chose to hang my hat here.
I still have an account over there, don't post comments, but theoretically could. I just don't.

The first time I was attacked over there was during the live posting during Hurricane Katrina.  Turned out to be a troll spreading patently false information like bodies in trees and an entire family washed away in Biloxi in a beach side motel...stuff like that.

I was in Korea at the time and was watching the live feeds from those areas on AFN and knew this guy was lying...but because I was about the only one awake at that hour on the thread...I was on my own and this guy was trying to call down the Viking Kitties and the Admin Mod to have me banned almost every other post...finally some more folks showed up and started backing me up and he ended up getting the Zot.

It used to be great fun predicting how long it would take before any particular troll would get the "Zot"...lol.  Who knew they would ever start zotting folks that were not trolls, just opposing opinion members...?

Yes, of course, but that wouldn't do much to them.  Much of their funding comes from selling their programming to local stations, and those local stations are generally funded by state governments and/or educational institutions.

Amen, Brother.  It's ridiculous that they ever had federal funding.  Wonder who I can blame for that?
