A new study, published in Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, asked a series of in-depth questions to 30 British undergraduate sport students to try and discover what straight men really get up to with their best friends.

I was in Barbados, and the rum was everywhere and cheap. I woke one morning on a couch in a hotel overlooking the Beach. It was beautiful. Some guy came out of the bedroom. He was totally naked. I knew him as an associate. However, even so, I considered his apparel to be a little bit understated.


The next thing I know, another guy comes out of the bedroom, this one I do not recognize, and he is also totally naked. Well, I might be dumb and I can't understand, but this I understood. They started laughing and grabassing with each other around the room, and it was obvious that they were trying to get me involved.


Fortunately, I was the only one in the room who was dressed. I said to them, You know what we need? We need drinks.
There was a cabana on the beach selling anything you need. I said, I'll go down and get us some rum. How does that sound? They thought it was just a fantastic idea.


I did go to the cabana. I bought swim shorts, changed and dove into the ocean. That was the last I ever saw of those two guys. Weird thing in my life is that so many guys I knew were gay, weren't. And so many guys I was close friends with were gay.


I don't know? Whatever it is, it is for them. It is not for me.
