Trump incorrectly blames Obama for release of 122 'vicious' Gitmo detainees

President Trump early Tuesday incorrectly blamed the Obama administration for releasing 122 "vicious" prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

“122 vicious prisoners, released by the Obama Administration from Gitmo, have returned to the battlefield. Just another terrible decision!” Trump wrote.

Trump posted the tweet 31 minutes after Fox News tweeted about a U.S. airstrike that killed a former detainee in Yemen.
“Former Gitmo detainee killed by a U.S. airstrike in Yemen; at least 122 former Gitmo detainees have re-engaged in terrorism” the “Fox & Friends” account tweeted just after 6:30 a.m.

But according to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, 113 of the 122 former detainees who have re-engaged in terrorism were released before January 2009, when former President Barack Obama took office.

I'm okay with closing Gitmo but not releasing the prisoners.  Instead, they could go to one of the best Max Sec prisons in the U.S. at  Florence, Colorado.  A few weeks in Florence and the Gitmo detainees would be crying for their mommies.

Not defending Bush, but the initial releases were not the hierarchy of the terrorists. They were the grunts. And grunts do what grunts do. They return to their previous low level activities. However when you start releasing the bigwigs you are releasing those involved in high level planning. That is what was in Gitmo when Obama took office. In fact you are releasing those who are probably not going to be associated with terrorist activities because they are pulling the strings.
That being said, Trump needs to run his tweets by a fact checker because he comes off looking like an idiot.

I had to dig for a while, through stories that predate this business from Trump, to find out Obama released over 150 prisoners from Gitmo, and it's too early to say how many are back on the battlefield because he dumped a lot of them during just the last few months of his Presidency.

Trump blamed Obama for 122 terrorists.  Of whom, only 9 were actually released during Obama's term of office.
