Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said President Donald Trump isn't likely to get his travel ban implemented by Congress if courts strike it down.

"I don't know that that's necessary," McConnell told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" Sunday. "I mean, the courts are going to decide whether the executive order the President issued is valid or not, and we all follow court orders."

McConnell's comments come after a federal judge put a pause on Trump's order that barred citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries -- Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen -- from entering the US for 90 days, all refugees for 120 days and indefinitely halts refugees from Syria.

Trump lashed out at the "so-called judge," tweeting Saturday: "The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!"

But McConnell said: "I think it's best not to single out judges for criticism. We all get disappointed from time to time."
The Kentucky Republican added about the ban: "We need to be careful about this."

"There's a fine line here between proper vetting and interfering with the kind of travel or suggesting some kind of religious test, and we need to avoid doing that kind of thing," he said.
Vice President Mike Pence said on ABC's "This Week" that "the administration is complying with that order as we speak."

"There's simply no question under the constitution, and frankly under federal law, that the president of the United States has the authority in the interest of national security to determine who has the right to come into this country. And we're going to challenge the judge's order on that basis. We're going to seek a stay," Pence said.

"The reality is, we face a dangerous enemy. And the President is determined to use the authority that he has under the Constitution and under the law. But we'll work through the courts to challenge the order," he said.

Mitch is right about a President not criticizing the judge by name.... not about much else though.

The idiots that keep electing McConnell and McCain need to be institutionalized.  Seriously.  Same goes for the morons on the left that elect Democrats, of which I don't know one that is worth a damn.  They are the epitome of what's wrong with the American election process.  Blind and rampant stupidity.

Something as ass backward. I thought the six/seven previous Presidents issued immigration suspensions.

Were those all unconstitutional?

Can ANYBODY stop immigration by backward, violent dangerous types?

Really, they are what's wrong with America. It IS their fault that these idiots are put and KEPT in power.

Mitch has done more damage than his Democrat replacement COULD have, had one been elected. An intrenched leftist Republican in a leadership role has more carnage potential than a first term Dem in a minority party. And he exercised it. But of course, people COULD have elected the conservative running against him and CHOSE not to. Anyone Mitch had for an opponent was more conservative than Mitch.

I can't believe.... that anyone that collaborated with the enemy like McCain did (has and still does) could go on to win a seat in the US Senate....or ANY public office.

It's disgusting and it's a clear symptom of the illness that America has suffered from since the 60's and beyond.  Used to be called Liberalism.  Now they call it the Progressive Movement.  I call it what it is.  Communists... and their agenda to 'fundamentally transform' America away from the wonderful nation we are and have been.

Some people will vote for anything with an R after their name, 2016 proved that.

2012 proved it. 2016 reinforced it.

I hope the Pubs realize that there will be no reason to go to the polls in 2018 if they fail to implement most of Pres. Trump's agenda. The more wishy washy they become the more likely they become a minority party again.

I'm going to wait and see how immigration control works out as well as repealing obamacare, tax cuts, conservative judges being confirmed and govt regulations being eliminated. However, in 2 short weeks I've seen little from the Pub party to make me think they are going to hang tough and get the job done. The only big thing I've seen so far that was encouraging was changing committee rules and voting for the Cabinet nominees.

There's only one way to go - forward.

You're right, waffling now will spell disaster for the GOP. Oh well.

You can bank on every one of them going to the polls and reelecting the liberals in the GOP because they want the liberals in the gop. thats why they keep electing liberals to positions in the GOP.

Everyone can make a mistake. When you do it several elections running and claim each time you made a conservative choice knowing full well the records of the people involved, then you (The general 'you'/these idiots) WANT liberalism.

And good freaking luck to anyone trying to pretend otherwise.

Well, in the last week we were told that ObamaCare is here to stay and so is the Iran deal.

Now, The Turtle head of the Oligarchy tells us that they do the bidding of the courts and will not secure the borders from Jihadist infiltrators.

I have said this a zillion times:  we can survive an Obama, we can survive a Hillary - but we cannot survive the millions of fools who make them our rulers.

McConnell is the epitome of a stupid and base population that will vote for a machine Oligarch simply because of the money they get from his robbing from the taxpayers.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Congress can't overturn the judges decision or the appeals, they would have to come up with a bill would they not??  There are already several immigration laws (acts) that demonstrate that Trump is acting within his authority.  This seems to me that this issue is going to go all the way to the Supreme Court ... question is ... will Gorsuch's nomination be approved before then?
