Chatter grows that Ryan could step down

Chatter is growing louder on Capitol Hill that Paul Ryan's days as Speaker are numbered.

Four House Republicans, including a senior lawmaker close to leadership, told The Hill they expect Ryan to step down after Tuesday's election, arguing that he faces a daunting path to the 218 votes he needs to win a full two-year term leading the House GOP.

Aides to the Wisconsin Republican insist he isn't going anywhere and say he's completely focused right now on protecting the GOP's historic majority in the lower chamber.

"The Speaker's only focus until Election Day is defeating Democrats and protecting our majority, and nothing else," said Ryan spokeswoman AshLee Strong.

This is plausible. The House GOP's reputation is garbage and Ryan doesn't have one success to point to as leader.

Sure he does. He's had a lot of success for liberals. Thats why liberals elected him and more liberals made him Bhoner's replacement.

“There’s time to deal with who’s in leadership, who may not be in leadership, how leadership is done, what the rules are, what we’re going to focus on in the lame-duck,” Jordan continued.

Dave Brat of Virginia (the guy who beat Eric Cantor) ...

He was one of a number of Republicans who voted against the Budget Control Act of 2011 on grounds it did not do enough to deal with the government's growing debt.[23]

Gohmert was one of four Republicans who voted against, joining 161 Democrats to oppose a balanced budget Constitutional amendment in November 2011.[24]

The House Republicans are not going to put a one-term member in the Speaker's position.

I don't think this "rumor is true.  After all, it comes from FOUR House Members.

Ryan did push through spending cuts on the budget, he certainly says a lot of things I agree with.

Maybe this is part of what George Will is talking about in saying talk radio has a big influence.

Anyone  truly believe that the 40 members of the Freedom Caucus can get one of their own elected to be speaker?
In what universe?   40 does not over rule hundreds.   Or are you all using Common Core math?
