Donald Trump Surges To 12 Point Lead In Texas

DALLAS FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) — Real Estate Mogul and Republican Presidential nominee Donald J Trump has surged to a twelve point lead in Texas over Former Secretary of State and Democrat nominee, Hillary R. Clinton in the latest KTVT CBS 11 Dixie Strategies Poll.

If the presidential election were held today, about 52 percent of likely general election voters said they would vote for Trump while just over 39 percent said they would vote for Clinton. This marks the first time Trump has polled over 50 percent in Texas and casts doubt on any Democratic victory on November 8.

Yes, according to all the current electoral maps, he has no path to victory.  He is going to have to win ALL the expected GOP states, ALL the toss up states and he will have to turn some states from DEM to GOP.  He may very well win the popular vote, but what people don't seem to comprehend is that he has to win the majority (270) of electoral votes in order to become president.

He can break all the records in TX, but at the end of the day he will still only get 38 electoral votes from that state. Right now it is projected that Clinton will win. She will take at least 287 electoral votes (17 more than needed), while Trump is projected to take 174 electoral votes.  He will be shy 96 electoral votes.  There are ONLY 77 toss up votes.  So, in order to win, he is going to have to not only take ALL the toss up states but he must take some of the states that Hillary was projected to win in and TX isn't one of them.

This is losing ground. As CSM pointed out, those are McCain level numbers who won Texas by 12.

In tight races, a candidate can't afford to lose ground, especially losing ground to prior losses.

I don't know about the polls, all I know is that a lot of my acquaintances that were solidly NeverTrumps at one time have come around in the past few weeks.     So at the very least Trump seems to be solidifying the base.     Now it's up to the independents.
