Luntz: This should have been a 'slam dunk for the GOP'

By Rebecca Savransky

Republican strategist Frank Luntz on Sunday criticized Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's campaign, saying this election "should have been a slam dunk for the GOP."

Luntz said on CBS's "Face the Nation" that Trump's campaign has been focused on the billionaire and his battles with "just about everybody."

"If he had stayed the voice and the vision for those people who have been left behind, this race would be a lot different than it is right now," he said.

Still, Luntz said he doesn't think the race is over.

He said there are enough people who are still undecided and noted Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is under 50 percent support in many polls.

"But it requires a level of discipline that the Trump campaign has not had," he said. "This is about the voice of the voters, not the voice of Donald Trump."

Luntz continued to criticize the Trump campaign.

He said he has never seen a campaign with "less discipline" or "less focus."

Yes, it should have, but the bleep just couldn't get over being emotionally jacked off by a liberal con man.

I supported Romney, despite his sketchy pro-life record and really, all of the GOP nominees.

Please, can we stay away from gutter language?

That's not censoring the truth...I hate any word where *bleep* is added.....it is insulting to those of us who have mentally handicapped family members.

I get that Trump was/ is not a professional politician and he will stumble more that Hillary.

But if one was deliberately trying to lose an election, you would succeed by following Trump's style
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

We were saying it a year ago. This was the big year for the GOP, Hillary was going to go down, even Democrats like Carville were saying this.

Hillary was smart enough to talk her friend into running in the GOP primary.

This was all predicted if Trump won the nomination. He just can't stop being himself...a narcississtic moron who thinks he knows a lot more than he does.

Everyone knew what he was. Everyone knew that he could say things like "I can/will be presidential" and make other absurd promises and would never be able to keep them. What still has me confused is why "smart" GOPers would be so willing to overlook such HUUUUGE character deficits in a Republican nominee?

I can understand Trump's motives, especially since they serve his narcissism, braggadocio and colossal ego. But what in the world did it serve the GOPers to throw their support behind such an individual? Their judgment is forever tainted in the eyes of wiser individuals who have watched this whole episode with incredulity.

Thanks for the Jim Robinsin quote. I guess every nasty thing people on TOS said about Trump in the past went down the rabbit hole.
I find it laughably ironic (and terrifying at the same time) that many of the same people who derided Obamatons for thinking their idol was a god acted the same about Trump.
What does this mean for conservatism? I certainly will never trust any pol,  radio flack, or talking head who boosted Trump. We found out who the real traitors to conservatism are. And among them are a lot the previously Big and Mighty. I think Rush will take the biggest fall.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
