Donald Trump called on evangelical pastors to help him win the presidency this November, which he said is “maybe the only way I'm going to get to heaven.”

He still loves Mormons I see.

“I'm having a tremendous problem in Utah. Utah is a different place. Is anybody here from Utah? I didn’t think so,” Trump said, prompting laughter from the audience.

Is Politico doing satire now?  (you have to ask these days)

In this case it was clear he was joking.

Every time he puts his foot in his mouth, apologists rush forward to say "He's JOKING!!"

How about that cute bit about how the Second Amenders will know what to do if Billary wins and has the right to appoint judges.  Wasn't that a knee-slapper?

Look.  I don't want to vote for the cankles.  I won't want it to win.  But Trump is making it REALLY hard...

I am very opposed to Mormon theology, but say what you want to about them as a people, they are hard-core rock-ribbed Conservative folks... And they mind the Judeo-Christian ethic a whole lot more than many Christians do.

That I admire, and am grateful for.

SOOooooo... is this a trump claiming God has chosen him moment?

How Ironic.
Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning, they want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters.

“maybe the only way I'm going to get to heaven.”

I'm convinced the late night talk show writers are Trump's speech writers. With Trump the jokes not only write themselves, he will have his guys do it for them...

Well there's a new twist.  A non-vote for Trump is a vote to keep him out of heaven.

The #NeverTrumpers are denying the Donald his rightful place in heaven.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-

In this case it is clear he is a joke.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

That is the weirdest picture.  Looks like he should be sitting on the commode.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

If you knew me like all the long time members do you would know I am a solid NeverTrump and always have been. I'm just being honest with my opinion that I heard it as a joke. He laughed and the audiance laughed after saying it. Stupid joke, granted, but trying to say he was serious would be dishonest and petty.   Unlike other times he has had diarea of the mouth. Not an apologist, thank you very much.

I think the problem with Trump is that he is not known for being a funny guy. His public perception is that of a goofus who says a lot of stupid things.

Reagan would often make a joke and most people would know it was a joke. Trump can make a joke and most people have no clue whether he is being serious or not...

What are Bible's for if not to wave them above your head in a look at me effort?  Nobody ever convinced Trump to open it obviously.

You make an excellent observation here. It is very similar to how Rodney Dangerfield handled business in Back to Scool.
