Rush Limbaugh just addressed this latest Trumpism. 

Rush IS in full defense mode of Trump.....even as he states that he is not mounting a defense for Trump.  Funny/odd....but....when he played the soundbyte, he left out the part about "but that will be a horrible day."   Now ....was that a purposeful omission?   Since it clarifies exactly what Trump did NOT mean (ie that 2nd Amendment voters could take action by voting)....the only reason to omit it is to provide cover and spin for Trump. 

Rush goes on to say that Trump is not evil, and he understands how he speaks, thinks, etc.

Hmmm.....

Hmmm.....

Rush is getting frustrating. It is one thing supporting the candidate. It is another thing to be a propagandist for him. The last time I heard this many 'what he really meant to say was....' with a candidate, was the other orange candidate, John Kerry.

The other thing that is a bit frustrating is he keeps repeating the lie that Trump just speaks 'off the cuff' and likes to joke around. Sorry, but that's BS. That is the image that the 'character' of Trump is playing, but he has a full staff of writers and marketing people who are parsing his words to paint a very specific image they want.

..and anyway, even if that were true, the job of Commander in Chief of the United States Armed Forces is not something to joke about. This isn't a dumb reality show.

I expect this kind of stuff from Hannity, but I was hoping for a bit more intellectual honesty from Rush.

..and there is the answer. Rush is projecting his own wishes and what he hopes Trump meant, not what he actually says or believes.

There was a thread on FR a few weeks ago where members were posing 'What Trump would do as President' and they were projecting all their desires on him- 90% of which were issues Trump never addressed or actually took a different position than they were projecting.

In this way, he is like Obama, people are projecting their own hopes on him.

A few minutes ago he was going on about some of Joe Biden's gaffes, as if what Biden does has any bearing on Trump. He's definitely shilling for Trump.

Pretty sad to have to stoop to Biden's level to justify comments made by the Republican nominee.  We have only spent decades making fun of Biden's comments; now he is the standard to meet?

I agree completely.  My thought while writing that was to suggest why Mr. Limbaugh is so assiduously defending Trump.

As to the rest.... it just goes to show what sorts of mental and ethical gymnastics are required to support him.  Disgusting.

Ok.....in the interest of fairness and truth (mostly truth)....

I found this video of what Trump said....and at about :23 in the video...at the "that would be a horrible day" part ...he goes on to say "if, if....Hillary gets to put her judges....".

Now that would rule out the comment "that would be a horrible day" referring to his initial comment that sparked this controversy.   It gives some leeway in interpretation of what Trump meant.  At least in my view.   

Problem is.....there are too damned many of these incidents where Trump's mouth (a separate entity, apparently) snatches defeat from the jaws of victory re: the Hillary scandals.  And to that, Rush has said NOTHING.

There's some leeway, yes. But his speaking "style" is either unintentionally confusing (as a result of lack of education, ignorance, or lack of intelligence) or he intentionally obfuscates his meaning.  I don't pretend to know which it is, but I find neither acceptable.

Trump's verbal antics makes me wonder if there's ADHD in the mix.  He simply cannot remain focused on any given thought -- it's whatever impulse bubbles to the top.

I find his entire persona unacceptable, but on this particular issue (the latest Trumpism), now that I've seen/heard the entire comment on video, I think what he meant is being misrepresented by the left, the media and his opponents.  And truth is the main goal in any election year.  Getting to it (always) is another matter.
