Priebus, Giuliani, Gingrich plot Trump 'intervention': report

Top Republicans and political allies to Donald Trump are planning an "intervention" with the candidate following a disastrous two days and political firestorm encircling the Republican presidential nominee, according to a report Wednesday.
 
Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Reince Priebus, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Speaker Newt Gingrich are among those looking to talk with the businessman, NBC News reports.
 
The group hopes to enlist Trump's children, who have proven pivotal in advising the businessman's candidacy, in their effort to get Trump back on track after days of feuding on Trump's part that even his closest political allies like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has found inappropriate.
 
Trump insisted in a tweet early Wednesday that there is "great unity" in his campaign despite reports of internal campaign strife following an onslaught of negative attention.
 
The real estate tycoon feuded with the parents of a slain American Muslim soldiers killed in Iraq whose father spoke at last week's Democratic convention, then caught flak over his answers in an interview on Russia's moves in Europe.
 
Trump told The Washington Post on Tuesday he wasn't ready to back Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in their primary races, despite them endorsing his candidacy, and he also swiped at Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.).

If trump is ad-libbing and going off script then that's the problem right there. I suspect that if he doesn't respond well to this sit-down it will be just Pence left for Hillary to run against.

Disagree.  The events of the last three days are a gift.  Trump must be pressured to step down in favor of his vice presidential nominee.

Considering that it's is job to prevent this stuff from happening in the first place, Priebus should resign immediately.  It won't help much, but it will at least be a public act of contrition.

I have said his children are the ones running his company because he can't, and they will be the ones running the government because he can't. 

When people in a group confront an insane person, the insane person will likely turn on them because he/she is insane.  If this group meets, it may be the time Trump quits.  Remember, Trump will never acknowledge he has made a mistake and a group telling him he must change, means he was wrong and he will resist that and may quit to get rid of these people telling him what he should do.  Perhaps I am wrong and he will just love them for doing this and he will turn into a loving, caring, candidate who will ask forgiveness for being insensitive to the couple who lost their military son.
