No, no, no, they're not "putting out fires", they're just "explaining" what he said.
Trumpsplaining. It's like mansplaining only more anoying.
“The way I see it, every time a man gets up in the morning he starts his life over. Sure, the bills are there to pay, and the job is there to do, but you don't have to stay in a pattern. You can always start over, saddle a fresh horse and take another trail.” ― Louis L'Amour

What's going to be interesting (and amusing and entertaining)...is watching the Trump fans jump around trying to put out the political fires Trump starts now with his own mouth.  They'll be on 24/7 damage control from here on.  I kinda feel sorry for them.

Maybe I should feel sorry for them, too.

Donald Trump was out for revenge Friday morning against Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas (A, 97%) for the speech Cruz gave Wednesday at the Republican Convention in which he did not directly endorse Trump for president.

At one moment in a press conference, Trump specifically took issue with an “added” sentence in the Senator’s speech.
“I knew his speech, they gave me his speech, I saw exactly what his speech was,” Trump said. “Well he got up, and in the first two sentences he added a sentence.”

Mr. Trump said that the added sentence “could have been viewed as a nasty thing, in terms of what he said, because he was implying something—which is wrong—but that’s OK.”

So what was that “nasty” added line in the “first two sentences?”

The text of Cruz’s speech as it was prepared for delivery was released by the RNC before Cruz took the stage and the first few sentences read:

Now, Time magazine has a transcript of Cruz’s delivered remarks, and if we put the “added” sentences in bold it reads:
So, umm, which one of those sentences were “nasty?” Surely it wasn’t “God bless each and every one of you.” Likewise, it couldn’t have been “I am convinced America is going to come back too?"

Was it, “And, like each of you, I want to see the principles that our party believes in prevail in November?”

Trump said he thought it was very “dishonorable” of Sen. Cruz to add one of those sentences, that Cruz was “implying something.”

The closest statement to the Cruz line that elicited boos from the RNC crowd—“vote your conscience”—was “I want to see the principles that our party believes in prevail in November.” So let’s assume that’s what Trump is referring to.

I think it's because Cruz used big words like prevail and principle. He needed to be more considerate of his audience.

Naw! It just because Ted refused to kiss the ring!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

That is just a terrible, horrible, nasty thing to say.

Why is a candidate flawed as Hillary winning?
Because she wouldn't spend the morning after her convention speech attacking Bernie Sanders.

If you're not concerned about the fact that the man you support for the office of POTUS gives speeches loaded with Fascist ideas and policies, that just means that you're a Fascist, not that those pointing out that Trump is a Fascist are wrong.

Bingo.  Are we supposed to ignore the fact he gives speeches loaded with fascist ideas out of blind party loyalty?

I've been a Republican for a whole lot of years, but I've been an American even longer.   I say it's disgraceful (and that's putting it as mildly as I dare) to willingly ignore a demagogue who spouts fascist ideas or make sniveling apologies for him.

Hopefully, we can move away from the 'lesser of too evils framework', which implies doing nothing or null ( or the third party equivalent).

Sorry, not for me. Apparently other folks can turn up the squelch enough to allow a massive level of cognitive dissonance ... some means of suspending disbelief to allow the extraordinarily absurd...

Others are leaning pragmatic - Assuming that at some level, the bullsh*t spewing from the man's mouth will somehow fertilize the garden...

Neither of these are TRUE.

The truth is that the emperor has no clothes. He prefers no clothes... And a marching band to be certain everyone will see that he wears no clothes, even while his minions work the crowd, pointing to him and declaring that he wears the finest of suits.

And the lemmings, being the lemmings that they are, are trying to figure out how to put on their skydiving suits... because following their leader off of a mere cliff is not going to be good enough this time.

Again, sorry. I am very thankfully dead-stopped at the bare fact that this man is of low character and high self absorption. There will be no good that comes from relying upon such a man for any reason. Y'all will wind up holding the bag, no matter how you might be convinced (either by others or by self) to think otherwise.

Thus, the only true way forward is to rely upon someone else. I will remain steadfast in looking elsewhere, because it is the only viable thing to do.

Exactly my point.  Hillary only has to stay to smile at the camera and not get too shrill.

I had not seen this casino-like backdrop to Trump' stage last night.  Reminds me of the old "King Kong" movie:

Obammy had Greek columns.  Don't deny the Trumpster his WWF style party.

Glad to know you are there.  Always thought highly of how you form your opinions.

Looks like 2*31^2, which are the prime factors of Trump ( hat tip @INVAR), has managed to push two members to the Hillary camp from last night's speech--which I may get around to watching at some point.

Very disappointed in Jonah Goldberg ( and similar folks who would not declare FOR a primary candidate) , as he came out for Cruz only after Cruz's convention speech and not when it would have mattered in February or even March.  Ultimately, Jonah was too lost in his brilliant locutions and poignant references to Caligula's Horse.

Hopefully, we can move away from the 'lesser of too evils framework', which implies doing nothing or null ( or the third party equivalent).

There are two spheres left in this election.  The 'Liberty' sphere and the 'government glob' sphere.  At least Trump will apparently allow Pence to run foreign and domestic affairs while he makes 'America Great Again'.  And Pence can influenced by the spirit of Cruz to promote some Liberty and Freedom.

The name of the game is which sphere splinters the least-- we see that The Bern is now down with Hillary-- so the 'Government Glob' sphere is united.

I remain a 'realist' at this level of analysis-- what the overall governing team will look like, including the Supreme Court.  Also, success begets success and maybe we have a President Pence or Cruz in 2020 or 2024.  Remember, HW Bush was clearly Reagan's third term.

Finally, in the worse case, Trump's authoritarianism could turn out to be more like FDR's.  This is at least a bit less catastrophic than the leader from 2*31^2, which FDR admired 'for making the trains run on time'.

Pence is going to need to find a way to make sure that Ivanka has no real power, save to Daddy's ear. Who was ready for the Democrat agenda to be presented and applauded - equal pay, subsidized child care, student loan relief?

We may need to face the fact that the 'Liberty' sphere might be a Lost Cause at the top of the ticket. Would Trump follow the guidance of Pence, Newt, Christie, Rudy if they point out that Ivanka's agenda is a HRC win?

Yet another known unknown with this joker. Has Trump updated his website with Ivanka's agenda?

You miss the entire point of Steve's tweet.  Hillary is winning because Trump is not even thinking, let alone, focused on, the real issue(s).  He's so caught up in his own personal nam....his own grudge....and making that the focus of his ire, instead of directing it where it should be.

THIS is one of the YUGE reasons he is SO flawed.  But you keep trumpsplaining it away....

I agree.  It's not just Trump himself, with all that he entails.

It's his followers and what they will continue to sow onto society.  IMO, his supporters are way worse than any Clinton supporters.  I have seen some vile tings by Clinton supporters, but nothing near as vile, rude, mean spirited, outright insulting and threatening, as I have with Trump supporters.  In fact, with the few Clinton supporters I've dealt with, they are just dumb....well, ignorant and dumb.  But they aren't so mind warped as to go out of their ever living minds as to expect, demand and threaten those that don't comply with Yes We Cankles.  Those who support Cheetoh Messiah...are a completely different zombie.  Their influence on society, their hatred, anger, absolute mind washing...wll do more damage to our society, than any of Her Thighness supporters will.  Just my $.02

Clinton and her supporters aren't threatening the lives of non-supporters and their families.

OK, so WTH?

I watched this thread last night, but not the speech. I appreciated the commentary here.

BUT...

I click over to FoxNews this morning and see the following two headlines:

But then Drudge links NewsBusters, where the headline is:

So, are Trumpettes Giuliani and Gingrich really THAT big a sycophant? Seriously?

You are seeing the echo chamber as the outsider for the first time.  The groupthink is extremely unsettling.

Agree with the unforced errors.  See above, including McEnroe .

But McCain was not good enough, Romney/Ryan not good enough and now Trump/Pence is not good  enough.  Multi-decade pattern forming here..

I'm starting to wonder if this isn't about Hillary. This is about Manfort and Stone's revenge on the Republican party that they always wanted to run but we're shoved out as the grassroots grew?

Filingr for future reference. That has a ring of plausibility.
