Ted Cruz is still optimistic that conservatism can have a positive impact on the GOP.

I'm not very optimistic. If Trump wins there will be no chance that conservatism can become a real partner of the party again.

My calendar today reads July 20, 2016.  Many days before it reads November 8, 2106.

Yes... 90 years, 3 months, 19 days.

Or 32,982 days.

What Ted Cruz should do, is take the mic, shout out "The GOP has left us. They've denied the Constitution and ignored the voice of the people. I can no longer support it. Therefore, I'm leaving and joining the Constitution Party. I'm out" And then drop the mic.

But in reality, I believe he'll be like Reagan in 76...he'll speak to conservatism and constitutional values, and what makes America, America and how we truly get back to that. If there's something we should ALL know about Ted Cruz, it's that he is a man of conviction and principles and I do not believe he'll endorse, as I don't believe he can, in good conscience. He'll skirt the line, speaking of uniting for other reasons and other areas, but he'll do it all without even mentioning the nominee.

OK I think I'm starting to understand why Trumpers are so angry. I'd be angry too if I supported a candidate who threatened to give me ideological whiplash.

They need to stop venting their anger on us and focus it on the cause.

They are angry because someone told them to be angry, that's all.

It's very easy to lead the public to panic or anger.  Just look at the War of the Worlds radio broadcast.

Touche, looks like the anti-Democracy bots have to likewise, keep up the personal attacks.

A dedicated thread really shouldn't be a problem for a website that has GOP in its name.

But the anti-Unity, anti-Democracy bots now talk of freedom?  Their freedom at personal attacks is more like it.
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on the dinner menu.
It is never unified, anyway.
America is not a Democracy, but a Republic, to protect the rights of those who might not be in the majority at any given moment from the depredations which could be visited upon them by the popular vote. Such was the intent of the Founders.

It isn't unified, either, with different groups always pressing for their particular interests.

One of those interests is that we do things according to our own Constitution, although there are differences on the interpretation and application of that as well.

Anything done to subvert that Republic is, by definition, unAmerican.

Okay, dude that was funny as hell. But I am a much better singer than that guy, even stone drunk. And for me to vote for Herr Donald, I am going to have to outdo what I did in '08, when Obama beat McPain, for whom my affection was limited, to say the least. One full bottle of Famous Grouse later...
This would be worse.

That was actually a myth according to the Telegraph. The History Channel still reports it on this day in history as being true, however.

Ted Cruz is still optimistic that conservatism can have a positive impact on the GOP.
I disagree...

If you listened to Cruz's speech today at the rally in Cleveland, and I was transcribing it for my husband, here is the gist of what he said:

Cruz says "Our party now has a nominee" and the whole crowd BOOS

Then a Trump plane flies by over head...and Cruz says "That was pretty well orchestrated"

Then he asked someone on his staff if he had emailed the plane to do that, right when he said that...everyone laughed

Cruz goes on: What remains unshakeable is his faith in the men and women at the rally....the obligation to follow our conscience, to speak the truth and truth is unchanging.  To defend liberty....a lot of talk about unity, and he wants to see unity and the way to see do that is to unite behind shared principles and to unite in defense of liberty.  For us to empower the grass roots.

The answer isn't going to come from Wash DC and it won't come from both parties, it'll only come from the grassroots and we the people.

He then reads something Heidi found on internet about camels and asses (I'm sure you've heard the joke)

He's still convinced God is not done with this country yet and if we are faithful, speak the truth, defend liberty and the constitution and empower the people, he promises there are better days ahead

People start chanting/shouting "2020"

He then talks about Indiana, and confesses one of the things he's sorriest about that he most regrets is after suspending his campaign....the group of volunteers...and he's upset that he could not stay and hug each and every one of them, but he didn't have the strength not to break down. He said they had tv cameras everywhere and he wasn't going to let them turn "Lyin Ted" into "Cryin Ted".  He said he lasted til about 2 people and he had to go back stage, but
Heidi stayed and hugged every person there.

He explained this afternoon rally was an opportunity for them to hug the people and thank them and say they are humbled and privileged to do it side by side fighting for this country they love with all their hearts.

My comment here has nothing to do with the actual convention, but I want to tell you about this happening:
A member of this family is a pilot for a major airline (which I won't say the name).  Pilots have to go through the TSA "inspection" line just as everyone else.  Pilots are moved to the head of the line so they can get to the flight line (airplane) as quickly as possible.

In this USA major airport, he was not moved forward, was at the back of the line.  The inspector person was a black woman.  When he was his turn, he told the person that pilots are moved to the front to get to their plane.  This person said they treat everyone the same.  He asked to speak to her manager.

The woman MANAGER came and she was dressed in a FULL BURKA, only her eyes could be seen.  This Burka wearing woman is in charge of airport inspections.

This pilot is a conservative Christian person, knows a plane inside and out, could fix, and has, anything wrong with a plane.  He wanted to be a pilot when he was six years old and stayed with that until he is now almost in his 50s.  You would want him flying your plane.  He had a real problem with a Burka wearing woman in charge of inspections.

DO YOU SEE A PROBLEM WITH THIS?  I was astounded the TSA is hiring Muslims for work in our airports.  I think this employment of Muslims in airports leads directly back to Obama.  The TSA rules are written by Obama's chosen people under his guidelines.

I will add to this, several weeks ago, we went through a Walgreens drive through to pick up medicine for me.  The person in the window handling my medicine was a woman in a Hijab, her head completely covered.  I have a problem with Muslims working in a pharmacy, determining which medicine they put in your prescriptions.

If a person is dressed in Muslim clothing, that indicates to me they are members of a Mosque and adhere to Sharia law.  I prefer to have my medicine filled by non Muslims and do not want Sharia law Muslims working in airports so close to our airplanes.  Call me prejudiced against Muslims if you want, but I don't care, it is Sharia law Muslims killing us.

As for the pills, http://www.webmd.com/pill-identification/default.htm is a good pill identifier, and I don't care who is at the pharmacy, it doesn't hurt to double check medication to make sure it is what it is supposed to be, won't interact badly with other medication, and so you know common side effects and toxicity reactions (especially for a first-time drug). There are other pill identifier pages on the web, I just picked that one because I used it recently.

Would like for us to revisit what Smokin' Joe had put together as proofs why Principled Conservatives have no business supporting Trump or the party he and the Establishment have taken over in total:

Donald J. Trump has:

praised Obama
supported amnesty
praised "Stimulus"
praised bailouts
praised ethanol subsidies
support eminent domain for corporate gain
supported corporate welfare
said women needed to be treated like $#@!
supported government-run healthcare
praised Planned Parenthood
supported present abortion laws
donated money to Hillary Clinton
donated money to Clinton Foundation
donated money to Charlie Rangel
donated money to Rahm Emmanuel
donated money to Bill deBlasio
owned a strip club
hosted porn convention
said Scott Walker should have raised taxes
avoided taxes through crooked scheme
turned on criminal partner when caught
declared bankruptcy
supported common core
supported assault weapons ban
supported long wait times for 2nd amendment
controlling and shutting down parts of internet
wanted new libel laws against free press
said gay marriage was "law of the land"
said we should not side with Israel
associated with mafia figures
hosted birthday parties for mafia kid
spent Christmas Eve with George Soros
paid a $10 million fine for money laundering
boasted about paying off politicians for favors
ripped off family members inheritance
never said he'd get away with killing someone on 5th avenue
encouraged his supporters to punch protesters
promised to make deals with Democrats if elected
promised a wall with a great big door for amnesty
said he could change positions any time he wanted
flip-flopped on common core in 3 minutes

No Conservative worth his salt will endorse or support someone like this as a representative of Conservatism.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

Ted Cruz is still optimistic that conservatism can have a positive impact on the GOP.

I'm not very optimistic. If Trump wins there will be no chance that conservatism can become a real partner of the party again.
You are correct. Reagan needed Ford to lose in 1976 in order to win in 1980. His speech was based on that assumption. Cruz needs to take a page out of that book and walk the thin line in his speech. Don't dump his conservative supporters. He also needs to avoid insulting the soft Trump supporters. The hardcore ones will not settle for anything less than obeisance.

Enjoy your fart cartoons buddy, sorry you disagree with me.
Whoa. The fart cartoon was in response to an earlier poster's comment about another's screen name, and a round about reference to flatulence. See post 33 on this thread.

One thing I always notice about Ted Cruz, is that when he speaks, he doesn't say I, or me, or refer to him being apart from the people...he refers to all of US and he includes himself in that equation.  He talks TO us and uses language that he's WITH us.  He refers to US, not me, not you, not I...US

Just like with Reagans speeches, he brings tears to my eyes.  I watch and listen to him and think, THAT is what we could have had....@$$H0L#$!!  It makes me more mad at all the DUNDERHEADS in this country and where they've taken us.  8888crybaby

The next time someone uses that "you have to vote for Trump, because Hillary" crap....tell them this:

"I would rather let Joe babysit my kids instead of Mike because Joe has raped fewer kids than Mike."

Let that sink in for a second.

Now, understand that this is exactly what you sound like when you're attempting to justify your decision to vote for the lesser of two evils.

Ha---that makes good sense.

BTW, thanks for posting that Cruz video...I'm watching now.
