Doesn't matter what the press says, doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say.  Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right.  This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences.  When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world:  NO, you move.

That's the bottom line for me, too.  But I answered it the other way.  Trump is erratic, mercurial, vindictive, narcissistic, megalomaniacal and unwilling to take counsel other his own.   IMO, that's a recipe for disaster for a CIC empowered to put our soldiers in harm's way.   

I'd prefer the devil I know to the devil I don't, especially when the devil I don't know is as erratic as Trump.

It's all of Trumpistan. There is no desire, no attempt to build bridges, reach out or give us a reason to support Trump. They keep stomping on us and our values, they did it at the convention too. They do not want us or our votes. It's as plain as day.

And interesting the number of people on this thread as compared to the official thread. Sure there are a number of us here who came from TOS where we weren't allowed any dissent. Why should we participate in a thread here that has the same rules?

I would like to propose a metaphor to describe the current state of the GOP:

Ten friends decide they want to go out for dinner. Four of the friends say, "Let's get seafood!" Some of the other friends object and the friends admit, "Well, I'd be satisfied with Mexican food, but I really want seafood!"

Three of the friends say, "I can't eat seafood. It makes me physically ill. I'm 'never seafood.' How about Italian? They might have some seafood type dishes there..."

"Wait," says a few friends, "If those four are OK with Mexican, maybe we should just do that?"

Finally the friends say, "Let's put it to a vote. We'll go to whatever restaurant gets the most votes."

"Well, OK guys, but let me remind you: we three won't eat seafood, it makes us physically ill."

The vote is cast.

4 for seafood
3 for Italian
3 for Mexican

"Great!" exclaim the seafood proponents. "Seafood it is!" They and three others agree that the rules were set, and they are going to the seafood restaurant.

"Well," say the three who hate seafood,  "we're hungry too, so we are going to the Italian restaurant. See you later."

The seafood crowd goes apoplectic. "You're anti-democracy! We agreed to take a vote! You have to eat seafood! *You* are breaking up our outing! We hate you! Go to hell!"

I love it that you're finally admitting you really do need our votes, after all.  Back when you and your candidate dismissed the concept, some of us always knew you'd change your tune.

But you're out of luck, because you'll never get mine.  And don't presume to lecture me on the "importance of voting" for a progressive Hillary donor, because it's ridiculous on its face.

Practical and pragmatic men and women saw the stakes laid out starkly.  None of us are guaranteed a "best" choice in any aspect of life, sometimes we have to play the hand that is dealt.  (Prayers for your valiant son, always.)

Trump is a dangerous, erratic and immature man who doesn't take responsibility for anything. That makes him at least as much of a threat as anything Obama/Clinton can throw at us. Even worse is the fact tat he doesn't seem capable of learning from his mistakes.

Clinton as a criminal who belongs in prison for Benghazi but she does learn from her mistakes and won't let that one happen again.

As far as Clinton going to prison, chances of that evaporated when Trump snuggled up to the GOP establishment. There is some guilt one the GOPe for being involved in that mess and Clinton going down would take some big name republicans with her. Ted Cruz was the only one I heard pointing to responsibility for Libya on both sides of the aisle and he said his AG pic would be directed to pursue the truth and prosecution on both sides of the aisle if that's where it belonged.

I could get with that reasoning if someone were holding a gun to my head in the voting booth.  But as it is, I don't "have" to do anything and no hand was dealt to me.I have free will, and no one owns my vote.  It must be earned. 

If I were to vote for Clinton or Trump, it would be hard to live with myself.   Rejecting both of those disasters is the only acceptable option for me.

There are many days between now and November 8th....  God only knows what we will all observe and learn...  voting YOUR conscience is the only acceptable action, from how I see it.
