I have a funny feeling that Jr. will be running for president at some point in the future.

If Sr. gets crushed, he'll have to work his way up the political ladder.  And he's starting late.

His speech was good (I hear) but he'll have to prove himself outside of Sr's shadow.

True.  But one thing is also true....Jr. is a much more charismatic speaker than his father.  Much more convincing.  Don't you agree?

Oh snap.  You didn't watch the speech.  Nevermind (getting late, turning in)

Thanks again for the great thread!!!

The way this is going, right after they cut the power to the microphones on the podium.

Two things Ted has going for him are 1) he won't be speaking at one of Trump's hotels, and 2) Fox News isn't hosting the event.

That said I will not be surprised if they cut his mike again.

I voted in Palm Beach county, Florida in the 2000 election.  Don't tell me that one vote doesn't count.

It does.

Except it's not just an emotional tantrum. Believe me, I've had emotional tantrums, so I know what I'm talking about.

We have one thing in common: our mutual dislike of Hillary Clinton. The difference is that your side of the argument is willing to support literally any person as the Republican nominee without regard to his qualifications, and are willing to manufacture their own qualifications.

Here's the thing.

Trump supporters excuse their support of Trump because they need to beat Hillary so she won't do all sorts of evil things like load the SCOTUS with Communists and (generally speaking) be a Junior Obama.

What's truly baffling is that while saying that, they've supported the ONE candidate out of the top-tier of early GOP candidates that consistently polled significantly BEHIND Clinton in the polls, who couldn't get more than @38% of the primary vote while he still had someone running against him during the primaries, who has been violently opposed by a significant portion of staunch, life-long Republicans, who is disliked by more Americans than Clinton, and who has demonstrated, time and time again, that he has no clue on things like constitutional governance and conservatism.

Now, if those polls are correct, and if he can't get more than two score of the general vote, and if he by continuing to tell those right-wingers that oppose him to stuff it, and if he can't turn his negatives upside down between now and November while the media and the Clinton machine work day and night to bury him and his family, and he continues to display his abject ignorance on government to the degree that he scares even more people away from him, and Trump loses as badly as I think he will lose, Trump supporters will blame the loss on everyone but themselves, ignoring the fact that it was them who picked the boorish, clueless, unlikable clown to represent the GOP.

5%.
So what would be called an actual endorsement?  If Cruz mentions the "nominee" and says we need to support the "nominee" without mentioning Trump's name, does this count?  Actually this is what I expect Cruz to do.

I'll give it 75% for endorsement. Not because he is selling out his values, but because of the 'live to fight another day' philosophy. This is not the venue to suddenly say 'aw hell naw'.

I think the other 24.99% is he gives an anti-Hillary, Conservative value speech only with zero mention of the candidate.

The .01% left, he let's it loose on Trump.

That's... just...

Sigh. Idiocracy.

Trump's got what conservatives crave...

How to lose credibility while posting:
1. Trump is never wrong.
2. Default to the most puerile emoticon you can find. This is especially useful when you can't win an argument on merits.
3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.
4. When all else fails, remember rule #1 and #2. Emoticons are like the poor man's tweet!

Again, let's not forget, there was a Cruz Trump alliance, LOL, spoke at that DC event together; what was that about? The budget? I can't even remember.  While Trump took after Jeb, Rubio and whomever else, TC was quite.

But now, Ted is as pure as the driven snow, the "true conservative"; and Trump? He's the life long democrat, liberal all of his life.

But we can go with the disingenuous arguments, as if Ted and Trump were rivals from the start. That there was no cooperation ever.

 :silly:

Doesn't make it as easy to be so critical of Teflon Don then, is it? While Jeb and others took their licks.

Gingrich, Santorum, Huckabee, Rubio, the list really goes on on whom was able to give support to Trump, but LOL, none of these are true conservatives, just the guy who at first compromised with Trump is.

Short memories, I will say, the Conservative One Levine, is probably the one conservative voice that never took to Trump.

I wonder if Cruz really believes the GOP will ever get behind him, in 2020 or any other election.

Because being the true outsider & Constitutional, limited government disciple he is I do not believe they will.

Maybe becoming the party anti-hero would be the better way to go.

Rick Perry said "aw hell naw."  Never mentioned Trump's name and never endorsed him.

I'd put down considerable coin that Cruz cannot bring himself to endorse a man who said and did what Trump said and did about Heidi and his father.  And has never publicly apologized.

They merely laid off criticizing one another. There was no "compromise".

I'm not even thinking about a 2020 run, but just being able to be effective in his seat to the people who voted for him for his current job. He can be made completely ineffective by leadership with the stroke of a pen, so his job would be just to sit at a desk and not actually accomplish what he has been working on.

I don't know who pitched that trash, but it sure wasn't me.

Most likely a Trumpette trying to win over the Cruz camp by suggesting Cruz bend over for Trump and be his VP. If it was from the Cruz camp, Cruz would have been at the top of the ticket.

So, seriously, nice try, but epic fail.

Less than an alliance, more than "just laying off each other"

And of course, a lot of fans of both wanted them on the ticket together.

The Stop Iran Deal together, yes, they teamed up.

They've probably already tried that. I doubt that there's much worse Cruz could do than openly calling the majority leader of his own party on a lie.

Cruz has alot of political capital now. I do not think they could get away with marginalizing him.

Posting pictures of them together really doesn't make your point.

I was one of those hoping they would form some sort of alliance but that went out the window when Trump realized Cruz actually wanted the nomination. Of course the low road Trump took helped form my opinion of him and his low moral character.

The Trump/Cruz position
Secure the border, Enforce eVerify, Deport, No government benefits to illegals

Trump doesn't support ending government benefits for illegals.  He calls that "mean-spirited".   Trump also has gotten soft on deporting illegals.  But he still stands strong on giving amnesty to those deported.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
