Donald Trump has chosen Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to be his running mate.

Trump tweeted the announcement Friday morning, after a day of reports that he had chosen Pence.

Pence is not my choice...I would have preferred Newt[ducking]...but Pence is a lot better than others he was considering.

And so we have the Trumpence ticket.  It has a certain undignified ring to it.

Clinton's team is no doubt sifting through her options to come up with a name that gives her ticket an even better ring...

I'm thinking.....

And the Trumpbots on TOS are loving it. I’m wondering how that place got so psychotic. It wasn’t long ago that Pence was being kicked around over there for various things.

Why would Mike Pence go on this suicide mission?  I don't know him well but I thought he was one of the good guys.

He either thinks Trump is okay which means he is an idiot and has forgotten all his principles, or

He thinks this high profile job will further his political career.

Maybe he should ask Sarah Palin what running as veep for a loser does for you.

The most charitable explanation would be that he feels it his duty to do so.  Were Trump to win in November, Pence could see himself as the guy who could prevent chaos (and to take over after the inevitable impeachment).

But at what cost.... I can't imagine what inducement would be needed for an honorable man to throw in his lot with Trump.

Maybe that Trump will be elected and die soon.

Maybe that he can have a positive influence on Trump.  That is delusional.  No one has ever had a positive influence on Trump.

With Pence on the ticket, Trump will be able to lock down Indiana's eleven electoral votes, bringing them into the Republican camp for the first time since 2012.

To give Pence his due, his background and experience make him probably the most qualified among the available VP candidates -- not to mention among the presidential candidates, as well.

He is, among other things, "an adult;" and the Trump team could certainly use an adult on the ticket.

Unfortunately for Pence, the Clinton team have a full two days to shape his image, and from what I can see the Trump team is doing nothing to stop it.

Pence is certainly a better choice than Newt or Christie.   He actually checks off a lot from the list of what would be an ideal running mate for Trump.

But Trump's so toxic it won't make any difference.
