I don't think the media was/ever will be "for" Trump.  I think they are fascinated by him and wish to exploit his apparently unending newsworthiness, but support and cover for him as they have for the Clintons and 0bama - no way.  Well, except for FNC, which is clearly and unambiguously pro-Trump.

The media is about Money.
Trump brings ratings.
If they cover him in a positive or negative light, he does bring them ratings.
Will that continue, or will people grow weary of it?
So far, it has been working out for the media and their ratings.
If Trump doesn't go out and say or do something outrageous, he doesn't get the coverage.
If Trump does say or do something outrageous, the ratings go up, and the media slams him for the craziness, with people watching, to see what he has said or done.
Trump has been the best thing for news ratings in a long time.
It remains to be seen if this equates into a win in November or not.
My gut feeling tells me it will not, but I've been wrong several times in my time.

This is a whole different dynamic now... the country has since moved dramatically leftward,   snip....

Had to cull that from your post, @ScottinVA  ....as that is EXACTLY why Donald Trump can beat 16 other REPUBLICAN candidates and become the GOP Nominee and ultimately the POTUS.

Having "...moved dramatically leftward", IS the reason that the Reagan Blue Dog will rise like a Phoenix for the ashes to support a man not associated with the agenda of the Democrat Party....which is sprinting toward a European Socialist government.   They will support the alternative....just as I had decided to do the day he announced a year ago.

Yep.. most Reagan Democrats are either dead or in nursing homes.  The era of the patriotic democrat is over.

When Zell Miller (D-Georgia) spoke at the 2004 GOP Convention...that was the signal that the era of the "patriotic" democrat was dead and buried.  They didn't want or need him in the Democrat Party anymore.

That makes for a cool story.

However...

The entire country hasn't been dragged leftward...despite the assertions from the left and the MSM.  If that was truly the case then half of the court battles we have going on in the country today wouldn't be necessary.

And why would you sound happy that it has been dragged that way?  Just because it means your guy has a better chance at winning?  If that's your only reason for sounding happy about this alleged leftward shift...than that's just plain dumb.

Another strawman, @txradioguy   It's not a case of "never waste a crisis" for me.  I deal with REALITY.  Like Rush, I'm the Mayor of Realville.

I was merely stating a fact.  The country has moved LEFT.   And if you don't know that...maybe you should broaden your sources where you get your news of the day.

Given the 'landscape', the GOP convention in Cleveland will be globally covered by the media.

It's my hope that this acceptance speech will mark a beginning of a 'presidential' persona.  I hope, with all my heart.

People forget. It's 1980 all over again. Back then, the reporting on Ronald Reagan was way over-the-top. The democrats and media incessantly tried to paint Reagan as a deranged warmonger. He was evil incarnate. And of course there was the usual racist, sexist, homophobe slander.

But, by the time general election audiences got a close look at Reagan, and heard him speaking in the debates they instead saw this likable, optimistic, intelligent, steady candidate. People thought to themselves what the heck are these reporters talking about?

And the rest was history.

Reagan was an intellectual; Trump is his antithesis.  Reagan had an identifiable, believable intellectual development leading from his original position as a democrat to being a conservative republican.  Donald Trump woke up one morning last year and magically morphed into a "republican."

Definitely.

Reagan had a positive, optimistic message and viewed America as that shining city on a hill, beacon to the world.

Trump has a negative, pessimistic message.  He regularly says that America doesn't win, that we are losers, and that's it's "their" fault.  He doesn't see America as an exemplar to the world, welcoming the eager hopefuls of the world to make a better life.  He wants a Festung Amerika, fearful of the world.

The two are diametrically opposite.

It's my belief...I lived those years as a voter...that the long gas lines and the Iranian hostage situation going on for 444 days, birthed the Reagan Democrat.

Reagan back then....just as Trump is today, was portrayed by the biased MSM as a Grade B movie actor and television personality (death valley days)

Obama has provided average working Democrats a helluva lot MORE reasons than Carter to run to the Republican.

As I recall interest rates, unemployment, and inflation were all in the double digits.

Especially one that has been...like Reagan...in the public eye for over 35 years.

And the polls in October, 1980...polls by the same NBC and assorted alphabets...had Carter beating Reagan.

What I have found shows Regan polling 3% - 6% above Carter in October, 45% vs 40% vs 9% (for Anderson)

I think you're correct that the country is more left of center now than right of center.  That reality still won't make me choose a candidate only because I think he will appeal to the least left of the leftists.  Get there slower or get there faster, left is still left and the wrong direction for the country.

I caught a little of Mark Levin in the car tonight.   He said that the nation as changed so much that you could NEVER have this Congress try to pass the 2nd Amendment today.

Both parts.   The 1st part is the Right to Bear Arms and the 2nd part is for the States to form Militias.

He said too, it could be said for the 1st.   Senator Schumer and friends have already met to take away free speech.  And it's being censored on college campuses across the nation.

Students are graduating with no notion of critical thought.  They don't know the difference between an opinion and a fact.  How can you debate/sway somebody like that.

Oh...and he said the same thing about the 10th Amendment.  And then threw in the 9th.

Oh yeah.....the country's gone left!

That's why it's sooooo important that Trump wins this thing.

They would shut down the internet and start rounding people up....in her 1st term.  The SCOTUS she will create will make 1930's Germany jealous.

Thousands of Americans are going to get killed when they come for the guns.   And, if she wins, they are coming!!  And that's just the beginning.

Once you're all disarmed...going out where crowds hang out will be like playing Russian Roulette.

I'm sorry, I have not been given (by Trump) any reason to believe he would be any different.  I hear his words, but based on deeds they are totally unbelievable.  I know what Clinton is all about.  I cannot control how other people vote.  I can only control how I vote.  And I will not vote for someone that cannot prove they believe and will act on what they say.

IMO, that's not only wrong-headed, but straight out crazy dangerous.

Unfortunately (for me), with that outlook and what's at stake,  I can't continue any discussions with you.  And that's a shame.
