Possibly Controversial Opinion: Attractive Cheerleaders > Unattractive Cheerleaders

Your outrage du jour is that the University of Washington had the temerity to suggest that cheerleaders should be attractive. The horror!

I mean, look, call me old fashioned, but maybe this is actually what’s right with America? That an organization has standards? And is willing to state them publicly, at least until the rage mob finds them and shuts them down? That we should hold up as a shining example she who works hardest to best fit the role she is trying to obtain? Because, believe it or not, traditionally speaking the attractiveness of cheerleaders is one of their key attributes?

Is this fair to people who are unattractive? I dunno, I guess probably not. Life is deeply unfair sometimes. As a not-terribly-attractive* person myself, I have come to accept this.

Indeed, contra Mr. Sington, I would suggest that freaking out about cheerleaders being reminded that part of their job relates to appearance and that there’s a generally accepted idea of what constitutes proper appearance for cheerleaders is what’s really wrong with America. So, you know, quit ruining America, jerk. Let us have our hot pompom-waving heroes.

*I mean, I’m not, like, circus-freak ugly. (Sorry, circus-freak different.) But let’s not kid ourselves: I’m not going to be a matinee idol anytime soon.

That problem has already been solved by the addition of males who definitely be deemed "attractive." :silly:
