America’s upside down government ignores its purpose

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 17, 2016 — Watching the national news now is like listening to the Mad Hatter: “When I say ‘Yes,’ I mean ‘No,’ and when I say ‘No,’ I mean ‘Yes.’”

Our government, whose basic function is to protect and defend America, seems cavalier about recent military provocations by Russia. And the two major political parties, whose purpose is to promote and hold fair and impartial presidential nominating processes, seem similarly unconcerned about irregularities now occurring in state voting.

Russian military provocations are increasing. According to Navy Capt. Danny Hernandez, on Thursday “A U.S. Air Force RC-135 aircraft flying a routine route in international airspace over the Baltic Sea was intercepted by a Russian Su-27 in an unsafe and unprofessional manner. This intercept comes shortly after the unsafe Russian encounters with USS Donald Cook.”

Where’s my liberty? Fading freedom and the totalitarian Millennial

He added, “There have been repeated incidents over the last year where Russian military aircraft have come close enough to other air and sea traffic to raise serious safety concerns.” He noted that the U.S. aircraft, a militarized Boeing 727 jet, was operating in international airspace and “at no time crossed into Russian territory.”

As reported on October 23, 2014, in The Washington Times, “Russian military provocations have increased so much over the seven months since Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine that Washington and its allies are scrambling defense assets on a nearly daily basis in response to air, sea and land incursions by Vladimir Putin’s forces.”

That article continued: “U.S. officials and regional security experts say Russian fighter jets are testing U.S. reaction times over Alaska and Japan’s ability to scramble planes over its northern islands—all while haunting Sweden’s navy and antagonizing Estonia’s tiny national security force.”

According to Ariel Cohen, who heads the Center for Energy, National Resources and Geopolitics at the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security in Washington, “What’s going on is a radical escalation of aggressive Russian muscle flexing and posturing designed to demonstrate that Russia is no longer a defeated power of the Cold War era.”

President Obama, who has rejected America’s former position of world leader, seems to be coasting his way to next January past these troubling military developments. Concentrating on global warming, the rights of gender re-assignees, the diminution of states’ rights and the need to secure increased federal hegemony over citizens and businesses keeps the commander in chief too busy to worry about anything as minor as the return of a Cold War with Russia.

At the same time, Obama may be relying on the friendly gestures made by his former secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, when she presented her Russian counterpart with the infamous “re-set button.” Things were going to be hunkydory after that landmark event.

Bernie Sanders’ socialism: Is it really?

Back at home, the Mad Hatter would find the chaos surrounding the Republican and Democrat primary elections delightful. The poor sap voters stood in all kinds of weather as state by state, in a record-breaking voter turnout, they cast their ballots for their parties’ presidential nominees.

Of course, anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock by now knows the insider fix is well on, in both parties. As Bernie Sanders wins states and loses delegate votes; as Ted Cruz loses states and wins delegate votes; as Hillary Clinton loses states and gains delegate votes; and as Donald Trump wins states and loses delegate votes, the Mad Hatter dances the futterwack.

The votes of the people of the land of the free and the home of the brave, a country that has worked to liberate so many other people in other lands, now seem not to count. Months, if not years ago, party apparatchiks have seen to that! It’s embarrassing to recall the Iraqis, who, post-United States invasion, made their way proudly to the polls for the first time, exiting with purple thumbs to signify their important role in deciding their own government leaders.

We are in the Magic Garden now where our leaders do not lead and our votes do not count.
