Trump: I'd Consider Rubio, Kasich, Walker for VP
Monday, April 11, 2016 09:29 PM

By: Jason Devaney

Donald Trump said he's open to asking Marco Rubio, John Kasich, and Scott Walker to be his running mate should he win the Republican party's presidential nomination.

In an interview with USA Today, Trump said he has a mental list of potential vice vice presidents but will not reveal it. When asked about giving Rubio, a Florida senator who suspended his presidential campaign in mid-March, a job in his administration, Trump wouldn't rule anything out.

"Yes. I like Marco Rubio. Yeah. I could," Trump said.

"There are people I have in mind in terms of vice president. I just haven't told anybody names. ... I do like Marco. I do like Kasich. … I like Walker actually in a lot of ways. I hit him very hard. ... But I've always liked him. There are people I like, but I don't think they like me because I have hit them hard."

Trump has rubbed many of his opponents the wrong way during the campaign. Kasich, Ohio's governor, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz are the two remaining active candidates in the GOP race. Cruz has been especially vocal about keeping Trump out of the White House.

Regarding Rubio, Trump said the dust-up between the two men regarding some off-color jokes is in the past.

"He made a mistake," Trump told USA Today. "He became Don Rickles for about four days, and then I became worse than Don Rickles."

Political commentator Dick Morris told Newsmax last month he believes Trump and Kasich struck a deal that will keep Kasich in the race, which could slot Kasich in as Trump's VP.

I'd certainly lose a great deal of respect for any of Rubio, Kasich or Walker if he would accept being on the ticket with Donald Trump.   If Trump is the nominee,  I will kiss 40 years of loyal support for the GOP goodbye.    Once the GOP trades its conservative, constitutionalist values for fascist, racialist ones,  I am gone.

They are politicians, with all that comes with being a politicians.

If the political calculus adds up, I suspect everyone in that list would accept the VP nomination from Trump. The calculus right now is not favorable, so I would expect each of those named to back away from this as you would from a poisonous snake.

Trump is not the nominee, is unlikely to be the nominee, and if he somehow manages to be the nominee it's even less likely that he'll win. No one with their own potential will hitch their wagon to that.

I think that makes sense.   For a politician, it isn't so much a matter of principle as a matter of expediency.   Trump is shaping up to be a loser of historic proportions.  No way Kasich, Rubio or Walker would hitch their wagons to the Trump train wreck.   We all need to keep up the pressure that support for Trump is unacceptable and will be shamed and shunned.   That's the only way politicians will listen.

There aren't a whole lot of people of character in politics, but I believe Scott Walker is one of them.

Because of that, I don't think there's any way he would consider being the VP for a President who doesn't share a single one of his values.  Not because Trump stupidly trashed Walker in his own state, but because Walker is principled and strong, and would never succumb to the siren song of a Progressive poseur............

I like Walker too, ML.  If the GOP goes to a deadlocked convention,  he may be the best bet we have to unite the clans.

Trump is too stupid to understand that he's burned his bridge with anyone with any integrity or an normal IQ.

As much as the name "Kasich" leaves a foul taste in my mouth, he's probably the best choice for the VP pick.

Kasich will:
1. Give Trump the delegate count to go over the top with room to spare
2. Probably bring enough "pull" to win Ohio to the Republican side in November
3. Be acceptable to the GOPe.

Mr. Trump is seen as a dealmaker, and Kasich will "seal the deal" for him. Not the best possible bargain, but one that works.

Other than that, I'd prefer Scott Walker -- the brightest and most accomplished of any GOP governor today. Heck, I wish Walker had stayed in the race...

Addendum:
Not sure if Walker or Rubio would accept the offer.
But Kasich would, in a New York minute.
He's hungry and grasping, and Trump's got what he wants.

Kasich bristled at Trump’s suggestion in a USA Today interview that he would look at Kasich as his vice president.

“Zero chance," the Ohio governor said during an in-studio interview with "CBS This Morning" on Tuesday. "Look, I am running for president of the United States. and that’s it.”

I think only Kasich would accept.

I'm not sure he would.  Kasich is more honorable than he's being given credit for.

I second that emotion.

What do you think G.H.W. Bush was thinking about, when he hitched his wagon to the Reagon wagon, which was at the time trailing badly in polls?

Dear STrump: thing is, none of them would consider you, rightly so, and that will be the issue at the open convention, not whether you will be in a position to pick a VP.

Considering that there has been a lot written about how G.H.W. Bush didn't like Reagan, (voodoo economic policy), my guess is that G.H.W. Bush figured a slim chance was better than no chance.

I clearly remember many on the Trump side 'hating' Rubio for his immigration stance.  Now that Trump is considering him for Vice President... what does that say about Trump?

He's a flip flopper?

All the Rubio supporters I know hate Trump's guts.  Granted I do not know them all, but I can't help but think that is the norm.  If Rubio were to join Trump, it would be more like Carson -- the supporters won't follow.

I highly doubt Rubio would take Trump up on it.  The point, though, is that Trump now wants a person who his supporters despised.  And they'll now love Trump for it, too.  Like Trump said, he could shoot someone on 5th Ave and his supporters would still love him.

Anyone with any knowledge of polling whatsoever know that being on a Trump ticket will earn you the biggest electoral landslide loss since maybe Walter Mondale. So I don't think Rubio would take him up on it.

I find it amusing to see how quickly and enthusiastically the anti Trump crowd kicks sand in the face of Trump supporters.

Enjoy president Hillary Clinton's reign folks.
