Donald Trump has a new policy:
During a Thursday night speech in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Donald Trump promised the audience he’d never use profanity again.
Trump was railing against “political hacks,” when he stopped short of using a worse term. “I won’t use foul language,” he said to the crowd. “I’m just not going to do it, I’m not going to do it.”
“They’re all saying, ‘Do it, do it.’ No,” Trump said. “I’m not.
That’s better, right?” “Even if it’s not a bad word, if it’s a little bit off they kill me, so I won’t do it. I’ll never do it again, actually,” he promised.
And here I was thinking that Trump was a fearless and consistent opponent of political correctness — a steadfast, rock-hard badass who would not be moved by purifying social pressure!
For the record, the “they” in his “they kill me” claim is a) the media; b) two of his opponents in South Carolina, namely those “political hacks” Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio; and c) a focus group hosted by Bloomberg Politics. As such, it seems reasonable to assume that we cannot truthfully say that “Donald Trump won’t back down,” and should instead propose that Donald Trump will not back down unless the media or the voters or Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz or a random focus group happens to criticize him.
And then? Well, then he’ll fold as fast as his casinos did when they were deprived of his father’s money.
