Presidential candidate Ted Cruz’s newest advertisement is relatively tame, though his campaign may think it's too hot for TV after learning that one of the actresses in it has starred in softcore pornography.
Amy Lindsay had a speaking role in the Texas senator’s “Conservatives Anonymous,” where a circle of support group members, one of whom walks in wearing a Marco Rubio shirt, talk about feeling betrayed.
A Ted Cruz campaign ad called "Conservatives Anonymous" has been pulled because actress Amy Lindsay (right) previously featured in softcore pornographic films. However, the blonde actress’s IMDB page shows previously been featured in productions much racier than this year’s presidential contest, including "Kinky Sex Club," "The Erotic Traveler" and "Co-Ed Confidential."
The ad, where Lindsay says, “Maybe you should vote for more than just a pretty face next time,” was pulled from YouTube as outlets began reporting on Cruz’s newfound connection to 2015’s "Carnal Wishes."
“The actress responded to an open casting call. She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the production company,” spokesman Rick Tyler said.
“Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad,” he told Buzzfeed.
Lindsay said she was "disappointed" that the spot giving her national exposure has been taken offline. Lindsay has also appeared in non-erotic shows such as "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Pacific Blue." Her website says she has been nominated for an Emmy as an associate producer of documentaries.
“Extremely disappointed the #TedCruz campaign pulled the national television spot I had a role in,” the candidate’s fellow Texas native said.
Lindsay told Buzzfeed that she does not do hardcore pornography, and is a conservative Christian currently deciding between Cruz and Donald Trump in the Republican primary.
The Cruz campaign's foray toward the risqué came as he battles to get the votes of Evangelicals in the South Carolina contest next weekend.
On Thursday the Iowa caucus winner spoke at the "Pro-life, pro-family, pro-freedom" Carolina Values Summit at Winthrop University.
