Marco Receives Most Conservative Congressional Endorsements

Not as impressive once you read the names.

Quote
Following several new endorsements from conservative leaders, Marco Rubio now has more endorsements from conservative congressmen and senators than any other candidate running for president.

Conservative leaders from every corner of the country who have had the opportunity to work with Marco are rallying behind him because they know he will defeat Hillary Clinton in November.

The first member of Congress to endorse Marco, Representative Tom Rooney of Florida, said he is not surprised by the surge of support for Marco.

"I am excited so many of my conservative colleagues have endorsed Marco Rubio for president," Rooney said. "Marco is the one candidate that has what it takes to unite the party and defeat Hillary Clinton and the Democrats in November. His optimistic message of expanding the American Dream is one conservatives can rally behind. Together, we will help elect Marco to the White House so this century can be a New American Century."

The first name I looked for was my own Senator, Pat Toomey.  He's on the list.  Good for Rubio - Toomey's the sort of pro-growth conservative I've always favored.

I seem to recall a factoid that none of Cruz's senate colleagues has endorsed him, or that only a few have. I don't remember details or whether it's even true. Any input?

I would guess that Mike Lee and Ben Sass would have.  They're the only other Constitutional conservatives in the Senate besides Cruz.

While I was looking for confirmation I found this at talkingpointsmemo.com:

Update: Sen. Richard Burr denies the AP report that he said he would vote for Bernie Sanders if Ted Cruz was the nominee. The AP is standing by its story.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican senators are confronting an unsettling possibility: Sen. Ted Cruz, their least favorite colleague, stands within reach of becoming the party's presidential nominee and standard-bearer.

Worse than that, many GOP lawmakers and aides fear the Texas senator could ruin Republicans' chances of hanging onto control of the Senate in November's elections, alienating voters in a half-dozen key swing states with his hardline stances on issues from immigration to abortion.

More http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/republican-senators-dislike-cruz

But, I still haven't confirmed which, if any, senate colleagues endorse Ted Cruz.

It's not surprising that the good ol' boy, establishment Senators don't like a man of principle like Cruz.

It appears Rubio however is racking up endorsements. That fact will not go unnoticed by senate constituents back home. No doubt, Rubio is an impressive campaigner and candidate.

I doubt they object to his principles.  They appear to object to his lack of comity and diplomacy.

I'm pretty sure that it's that he came to the Senate and did what he promised to do, and they didn't.

No, that's your perspective, not theirs.  From their perspective,  he was a runny-nosed freshman Senator who ignored the usual traditions of decorum and comity.  To be an effective member of a deliberative body,  it helps to have friends.

From their perspective Cruz is a REAL threat to the games they have been playing inside the beltway for ages and THAT is the only thing that matters to them!

I strongly agree with you.

When "comity" supersedes honesty and carrying through on promises, the whole system becomes corrupt.

I often call to mind "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" when I think of the Senate (even though it was entertainment, Capra was right on target).  There are a lot of Claude Raines' characters in the Senate.  Corrupted and on the inside track, and perfectly willing to give up principles and love of country to stay there.

He refused to roll over for the Dem/GOPe class, so for that he's a "runny-nosed" freshman.  Rubio slaps his voters in the face and is the Golden Child for becoming a lackey.  I can't stand the GOPe.

Cruz has been a useful tool for the establishment to hurt Trump.  Once he is no longer useful to them - they will throw him away like garbage.  That's the way they roll.

This "GOPe" is a straw man.  Those of us who don't favor Trump or Cruz are hardly monolithic.  We run the gamut of conservatism.  We're pragmatic.   We believe that winning is more important than going down in ideological flames.

As for me, I think Cruz and Rubio are both runny-nosed freshmen Senators, just as Obama was.  I'd hope one lesson of the last seven years is that real experience is not valueless.   But I have my doubts that lesson has been received, since the experienced, credentialed candidates (Perry, Walker, Bush, Jindal, Kasich, Christie) have all dropped out or may soon be forced to.

It's sexier to be reflexively angry,  and back the candidate who gets you off.

The voters have the say, not "the establishment".  That's another straw man.  Don't project onto voters your conspiracy theories.  If Cruz is brought down,  I strongly suspect it won't be because of his "conservatism", but because of his temperament and personality.

Reagan was conservative, and had a warm, optimistic personality and articulated his conservatism in positive terms.   Cruz could take some lessons from the Gipper.

Remember that Congress may have a very different definition of "comity and diplomacy" that we do.
