Define what it means to be "Conservative". One of the problem in modern politics is "conservative" is a sexy sounding word people like to throw out to avoid to honestly define what they stand for politically.
It depends on what issues are most important to you. You've heard the varieties of conservatives - economic conservatives, social conservatives, neocons, paleocons, libertarian-conservatives, reformacons, etc., etc. The issues that matter most to me are economic growth, limited government and individual liberty. My political heroes are Goldwater, Reagan and Kemp (yes, I know, I'm old). I do not vote on the basis of social issues (I have no objection to gay marriage, for example). I prioritize pragmatism over ideological purity.
