....

As for me, I think Cruz and Rubio are both runny-nosed freshmen Senators, just as Obama was.  I'd hope one lesson of the last seven years is that real experience is not valueless.   ...

....

You ignore that Cruz had a career before Congress.

And, I have to admit, I don't know what Rubio did before he became a politicial.  I'll have to look.

This "GOPe" is a straw man.  Those of us who don't favor Trump or Cruz are hardly monolithic.  We run the gamut of conservatism.  We're pragmatic.   We believe that winning is more important than going down in ideological flames.

Define what it means to be "Conservative". One of the  problem in modern politics is "conservative" is a sexy sounding word people like to throw out to avoid to honestly define what they stand for politically.

Not as impressive once you read the names.

Yeah, true to "contemporary conservative" form, Mia Love was a superstar just a very short time ago, yet now she is mere chopped liver.

Like giggly middle-school girls, love them, then leave them.

An outgrowth of "checklist conservatism" whereby "one strike and you are out."

He refused to roll over for the Dem/GOPe class, so for that he's a "runny-nosed" freshman.  Rubio slaps his voters in the face and is the Golden Child for becoming a lackey.  I can't stand the GOPe.

I want to see a "checklist" of exactly who is GOPe, and for what exact infraction of conservative perfection.

Do you know of one such document.  "GOPe" is merely a new term. Different factions have been present in the GOP since the beginning.

When you read this cited article, you will realize that factions always have to find mutual footing, for without it they simply cannot prevail.

So if your goal is to have a large number of 98-2 results like Cruz got from his Senate colleagues, by all means plan on a permanent minority status.

It depends on what issues are most important to you.  You've heard the varieties of conservatives - economic conservatives, social conservatives, neocons, paleocons, libertarian-conservatives, reformacons, etc., etc.   The issues that matter most to me are economic growth, limited government and individual liberty.  My political heroes are Goldwater, Reagan and Kemp (yes, I know, I'm old).   I do not vote on the basis of social issues (I have no objection to gay marriage, for example).  I prioritize pragmatism over ideological purity.

If you'd like to know how I stand on particular issues, ask away.

This is the top of my "checklist" and add any GOP congressperson who either voted for the Omnibus Bill or didn't have the courage to even show up to vote.

It's not surprising that the good ol' boy, establishment Senators don't like a man of principle like Cruz.

The Senators have to work with him.

That's why they don't like him. Cuz he doesn't work with anybody.

When George W. Bush (who likes everybody) says he doesn't like Cruz (he had to work with him too), it says something.

Remember the comments of a former attorney co-worker of Cruz:

"Why do people instantly dislike Ted?"

"It saves time."

I'm pretty sure that it's that he came to the Senate and did what he promised to do, and they didn't.

Cruz promised to shut down the government?

That's pretty much his only accomplishment in the last three years.

I missed all the hulabaloo regarding Sinkspur, but it sounds to me like he's an advocate for common sense.

He is.

Well, it's a pretty good one if you feel the way I do about the government.  ^-^

Cruz has been a useful tool for the establishment to hurt Trump.  Once he is no longer useful to them - they will throw him away like garbage.  That's the way they roll.

I agree.  And then they'll push for Rubio.  Wouldn't be surprised if he'd have to agree to have Bush as his VP.

Welcome back, sinkspur!

Glad to be back. And I really do admire you for you reasonable, rational posts over the last month.  I lurked some.

Keep up the advocacy for your candidate.

Yep. The Trilateralists would insist on it.

Except that both are from Florida and it makes no sense, especially since Bush has trashed Rubio unmercifully.

Jeb Bush is finished politically as is the Bush dynasty.  Let's hope we can end the Clinton dynasty too.
