I think I'm pretty appreciative of your service ac.   :patriot:

You're wasting your time with these guys.  They're reaching the bottom of the barrel when they have to insult a great American like you.

I missed the insult, and I too appreciate aligncare's service to our country.

I put in almost 60 hours my last work week.  Today I only had a 2 hour meeting.  The rest of the day I accomplished nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

Tomorrow you may have the forum Once-Ler free from morning until late evening.

See you tomorrow. :seeya:

Can you imagine spending so much time trying to find Negative Trump?  And then having to attract enough attention to keep the threads going on for days and days?  You wouldn't have time for anything else.

Why, thank you, Lando. You are ever the temperate poster.  I count you among the many good friends here at TBR.

But my response to Godzilla about military service was my attempt to illustrate a point, not angle for a compliment.

America is such a great country, a standard for other nations to follow, that I cannot comprehend how someone who lives here, becomes a citizen here and achieves the success that Ramos has in America, would still vote in Mexico?

I'm proud of my Italian heritage, yes. They are--at least were--a great people. But, America is what brings tears to my eyes. I can only feel one allegiance--I'm all in for America. In my opinion, you either are or you aren't.

Knowing you as I do ac, I am certain you weren't seeking compliments.  You deserve one nonetheless.

My post actually replaced another set of comments which was out of character for me - I angrily snarked with respect to remarks of others which challenged your allegiance of citizenship.  I'm glad I yanked them.  Your eloquent statement above says it all.  Best!   :patriot:

It looks like, unless you formally informed the Italian government that you renounced your Italian citizenship, you are probably still an Italian citizen.  Which puts you in the same category as Jorge Ramos.

In fact while I was in Vietnam, and well before I was naturalized, I did get a draft notice...from the Italian government! They wanted me for military service!

But the premise of what you said couldn't be more wrong. I would fight and die for America, but not for Italy. Can Jorge Ramos say the same thing? I don't think so. I think he's a Mexican nationalist and La Rasa racist.

Because for me, it's about an allegiance to one country that comes from one's heart. As American patriots, we shouldn't sleep around, if I can use that analogy. It's about being faithful to one nation.

If you don't get that, I don't think there's anything else I can say to you on this issue.

You excused the Trump supporter for telling Jorge Ramos, an American citizen, that he needed to get out of our country.

Why?  Because he was a dual-citizen... insinuating that dual-citizens were disloyal to America because of their dual-citizenship.

Then, when I pointed out that you fit the same category, you change your argument... saying that citizenship is about loyalty/love for their adopted country.  And that's very true.  But you have no clue about that regarding Jorge Ramos.  You do not know him.  But you automatically assume he is not.

Why should anyone view you in anything other than the same light that you hold against people just like you?

---

Golden rule, people.  Golden rule.  "Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you."

You aren't willing to grant Jorge the benefit of the doubt because he's a dual-citizen.  For that shows no love for his adopted country.  And yet, you are a dual-citizen.

Think about it.  If they come for Jorge, they'll come for you, too.

Good post, aligncare!

Thank you for sharing your story and your love of your country............. AMERICA!   :patriot:

I took a trip to Sweden this past summer and visited the birthplaces of my grandparents and great grandparents.  While I felt a great kinship with the places and people of central Sweden (they are my people!), it is not the same as my love for America.

Though I don't have dual citizenship, I do have a loyalty to my ancestry, and in spite of that, I am completely and thoroughly AMERICAN.

Just.

Like.

The point was that the guy in the video isn't going to care one whit about his service.  That guy will just see another dual-citizen that needs to get out of 'his' country.

And AC is excusing that belief and behavior.

I'm pointing out that guys like the one in the video will not stop with just Jorge.

There is a quote that fits the bill here:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)

And they (demonstrated on video by a Trump supporter) are already 'coming' for the dual-citizens.

Freedom of speech... and if ramos gets his panties in a bunch because someone told him off, then it is his problem not AC's.

Okay, and now for ze dueling quotes.

In 1867, George Yeaman, American Minister to Denmark, in his highly respected treatise on allegiance and citizenship and for whom the framers had great respect, asserted that “the idea of a double allegiance and citizenship united in the same person, and having reference to two separate, independent, and sovereign nations or governments, is simply an impossibility.”

Yes, I know. Dead white guys.

For as long as I've been participating in these forums people have always accused me of having some sort of an agenda on immigration that's driven by my ethnicity and not for love of my country (the U.S.) because I've chosen to post under my real name. Lots of people could never quite grasp the idea that I love this country, but I saw a different path to solving the immigration issue than they did.

We ALWAYS assume that those with whom we don't see eye to eye with have some sort of sinister agenda.

That's wrong but sadly it happens.

We are in the age of cynicism.  It is a self protection mechanism as we are bombarded daily by tons of BS from politicians, media, coworkers and government.
It is sad, but understandable.
