"He started it!" is never a good excuse. Rise above it.

I leave the "turn the other cheek" concept to Jesus.

People who oppose political candidates are not "haters", at least not usually to anyone outside Daily KOS and TOS. I find it highly ironic that so many people who condemn the dreaded GOPe for acting just like Democrats turn around and act like Democrats themselves by demeaning opposition and lowering political differences to emotional reactions. I wonder how long it would be before I was called a "racist" for opposing Ben Carson.

It's not the opposition to candidates that pushes people's buttons around here - it's the demeaning of the supporter!

Words like:

 - let me type it slowly so you can understand

 - let me simplify it for you

 - people that support (whoever) are morons

.....you get the picture.

I understand opposition to a candidate's positions, character, record - etc.  I don't think very many people here have a problem with that - or a problem with someone promoting a candidate they like.  Where the "base emotionalism" comes in is when someone is derided, mocked or ridiculed because they support a certain candidate.  THAT is behavior I associate with TOS and why I left there.

The "hater" comments usually appear after a poster has been ridiculed, their intelligence has been insulted, and they've been cluster-mocked (reminds me of the "pinging" at TOS), merely for showing support or agreement with the targeted candidate.

Hey, nobody opposed Newt Gingrich more than I did last election cycle. I just thought he could not win a general election. But the whole time I was opposing him I also stated clearly I thought he was a great Republican with quite a list of accomplishments. He did great things for the party and I never disparaged those who supported him. Never, not one time.

I noticed that you conveniently left out "His point not valid--but fogged in base emotionalism" which is where this whole thing started.

That's an incredible display of sheer hypocrisy.

No one said a word when someone decided to demean me and my post by saying that it was "fogged in base emotionalism", but you all suddenly shroud yourselves in a shroud of righteousness and get all over my s#it for responding in kind.

Tough.

You demean me and my posts, I'll call you out on it and I'll hit back.

If you don't like that, there's an ignore button available.

If management doesn't like that, there are some really great shows on Netflix I can catch up on.

I wasn't talking about that post specifically and I really wasn't aiming it at you alone.  I included a quote from you, but others as well.  You've said nothing to me that would make me put you on Ignore.  I'm just pointing out that it's a two-way street.

I really don't want to make anyone mad, but I will be honest and say that some of these remarks have made me mad.  I won't hold a grudge and I hope you don't either.  I have no doubt that you love your country Luis and I know we both want America to thrive - we just have different ideas on how to get there.  I hope we can still be friends.

Keep in mind the political Silly Season is just upon us.  This will be a rocky ride and all of us are passionate about this place we call "America".  We each have some level of grief over what we have seen unfold in recent years.  Back to the original point that Luis made well up-thread (well, I think it was his), we had better find a way to unite behind the eventual Republican candidate.  If we fracture and lose this thing--- well, whatever measure or ember of optimism I have will be snuffed out.

--------

Here is an anecdote from Lando's Life:  My younger brother, who always votes Democrat (while living a conservative lifestyle) said yesterday he will sit out the election if Hillary Clinton is the nominee.

--------

Famous - I have really enjoyed your commentary.  Well played.

Luis - your value to this forum is immense, in my view.  You keep the ball in the air.  Always.

Alice - I can't imagine you holding a grudge.

--------

The prize will be handed out in November 2016 whether we like it or not.

SPOT ON..and maybe this is the silly season but comments like that are getting more and more prevalent on this forum.  We're getting more and more like ___  every day.

Lord, I hope not!

We're not.  But, our side needs to understand we have more in common politically than we know.  Imagine Biden/Warren being on the ticket for the Dems.

We are too eager to tear down others who reside somewhere right-of-center simply because they aren't standing on the same spot I am.

That's right, Lando!  It's why I said, that despite differences with the 24/7 Anti-Trumpers on the candidate's Republican pedigree and overall worthiness, they're still my political brothers.
