Trump At 32% In New Post-Debate Poll

TEFLON DON: TRUMP AT 32 PERCENT IN NEW POST-DEBATE POLL
by Matthew Boyle
August 10, 2015

Republican frontrunner billionaire Donald Trump has jumped seven points—a remarkable hike in the polls—after the GOP debate in Cleveland, Ohio, last week and a subsequent spat with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly.

The Morning Consult poll of 746 self-identified Republicans and GOP-leaning independents has Trump with a  commanding lead over the entire rest of the field at 32 percent. That means he leads the next three candidates—former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Dr. Ben Carson and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker or Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)80%
—combined. Bush, who came in second, got only 11 percent. Carson came in third with 9 percent. Walker and Rubio tied with 6 percent each.

Trump’s 32 percent means he leads Bush, Carson and Walker—or Bush, Carson and Rubio, depending on which candidate tied for fourth place one considers actually in fourth—combined. His 32 percent is tied with Bush, Carson, Rubio and Walker combined.

Trump’s 32 percent is also up seven points over last week’s Morning Consult poll, which had him at 25 percent. The poll was conducted Aug. 7 through Aug. 9—Friday through Sunday—which means most of the polling was done not just after Trump’s debate performance in which he battled Fox News anchors seemingly determined to take him out but also after Friday evening comments about Kelly.

“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever,” Trump said of Kelly during a Friday interview with CNN’s Don Lemon. Many of Trump’s competitors in the 2016 field—and Red State’s Erick Erickson, a Fox News Contributor who disinvited Trump from his weekend conference with various candidates and activists over it—took that to mean Trump was insinuating that Kelly was menstruating, but Trump later noted that he was talking about her nose.

“Trump’s support shows no evidence of slipping after he told a CNN anchor on Friday night that Kelly, one of three moderators overseeing the Fox News debate, had ‘blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever,’” Morning Consult’s Reid Wilson wrote about the poll.

What’s more, Trump’s favorability ratings in this new poll skyrocketed.

“The share of Republican primary voters who say they view Trump favorably increased since the last tracking poll, to 62 percent from 57 percent,” Wilson wrote. “But the number of registered voters who say they see Trump unfavorably remains high — 52 percent of all voters say they see him in a negative light. That makes Trump both the most popular candidate within the Republican field and the least popular candidate Republicans could nominate for next year’s general election.”

This is from Breitbart, which has allegedly agreed to be pro-Trump.

It seems to be true though.  A great many Republicans seem to like the Donald.  Maybe they want to win bad enough to nominate a celebrity?  He'd get clobbered by Hillary is my guess unless she really F's up.

It is amazing to me, how many hits Trump takes and then he becomes even stronger.  I believe the hatred for the media, including Fox, hatred for the established political class, and the yearning for a strong, almost arrogant leader is driving this force.  I have never seen anything like it in politics before.

Who knew that 32% of Republican primary voters were idiots?

We have such a deep bench with many stellar potential nominees, and 32% of our voters prefer the jerk?

There is NO hope for America if this poll is accurate......   **nononono*

They actually elected Arnold and Franken.  Most Americans really aren't very knowledgable about things.

Hannity just announced the NBC poll showing Trump at 23% and Cruz now in 2nd place at 13%, Carson at 11% and Fiorina and Rubio are now tied for 4th place.

I am astounded as I felt for sure that Trump's remarks about Kelly would sink him.  Obviously I was wrong and the majority has found more approval of Trump than those that disapproved of his remarks.  They obviously see more good in Trump than bad. With Cruz, Carson, and Fiorina placing above Bush it clearly reflects the utter disdain, and disgust for the GOPe.

I am not endorsing Trump and his comment on women by any means; and unfortunately, I still think there is a possibility that he will split the vote.

Unless this truly is a setup...Hillary has very good reason to be terrified of Donald Trump in a one-on-one.

People like Donald Trump because he doesn't follow the rules. People are tired of copy/paste politicians that don't do anything to advance the causes they care about. It doesn't matter how stupid he is; they like him because he's not everybody else.

Not if the only choices for leader of the free world are a corrupt, mean socialist (Hillary) and an arrogant narcissist blowhard like Trump.

We have so many good choices.  32% of the Republican base has completely lost its collective mind if they think Trump is the best.

Trump supporters will be the reason Hilary wins this election. The Clintons are measuring the curtains in the White House again, knowing that Donald Trump is Hilary Clinton’s insurance policy. And it’s working.

Nearly every discussion on this board is about Trump. Even though most of our members despise him waiting for the shoe to drop. And he just keeps getting stronger. Very curious, indeed.

Honestly to me he's a joke and I doubt I could pull the lever for him.  I hope if he wins GOP there is a decent third party such as a libertarian to vote for here in NC.

And just where is he getting stronger here?    Not that many days ago I was thinking they are going to have to rename this forum the TrumpetRoom. I seemed to be in a tiny minority of what one person labeled as "Trump Haters", and even calling us RINOs. The tide has very noticeably shifted - and it will even more as the debates continue.
