Following Charlie Hebdo, Associated Press Censors ALL Images That Could Offend People Of Faith
By Brian Carey, January 8, 2015.
By now the whole world knows about what happened in Paris yesterday. Armed Muslims stormed into the offices of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo to exact some payback because the people who work there had published offensive images of the prophet Mohammed.
That attack left 12 people dead.
The whole episode put the mainstream media in the unfortunate position of reporting about what happened, but unsure about how to report why it happened. That’s because, in an effort to explain the motivation of the attackers, it would seem necessary to publish the cartoons that caused the outrage in the first place. However, some media outlets refused to do that.
One media source that refused to publish the cartoons was the Associated Press. When asked why it wouldn’t publish the images, a spokesman said: “It’s been our policy for years that we refrain from moving deliberately provocative images.”
However, while that spokesman was saying that, the AP website offered people the opportunity to buy a work of art appropriately entitled “Piss Christ.” That artwork depicts a crucifix in urine.
It didn’t take long for the obvious inconsistency to be made clear to bigwigs at the AP. So, in the interest of (finally) appearing to be fair, the “Piss Christ” artwork was removed from the media site.
Of course, we all know what really happened here. The AP refused to publish the cartoons of Mohammed because people who work there were afraid that they would be killed in retaliation. The excuse that they didn’t want to offend Muslims is nonsense.
And that’s why they kept the “Piss Christ” artwork on the website. They didn’t mind offending Christians, because Christians tend not to kill people who publish offensive images of Jesus.
So this episode just further highlighted the hypocrisy of the AP leadership.
