Personally witnessed this several times up close.
Years ago my best girl and I shared a townhouse. Her Bengal cat could detect the sound of HER seemingly silent Jaguar sedan before it even turn the corner onto our street. (a distance of more than 300ft)
Before she turned into our driveway the cat would begin to howl on the top floor where she slept and rush down to the front door to greet her...EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Live in a top 3rd floor walkup. Total of SIX units in the building. No matter how quiet I sneak up to the door, my cat if parked right at me feet as I open it.
Have lived here for 7 years and frequently spend entire days without exiting my unit...so I can say that she never parks herself in my foyer.
It's uncanny!!
