@berdie

Not true in all cases,but some cats bear watching.

I have several stray cats that I rescued from life behind a grocery store dumpster that are now that are as tame as any cat you have ever seen,despite being born wild and living wild for a few years. Total affection junkies.

One stray cat that now lives with me even got between me and the rescue squad one time,hissing and threatening them if they got close to me. I had to pick her up and pet her to calm her down so they could put me on the gurney.

The one that wanted to fight the Rescue Squad people was a stray that someone dumped off on the island where I live,and I found her hunched down in the tall grass and trembling with fear when I came home one day. I just picked her up and took her in the house,and she instantly started to calm down after looking around a bit. Beautiful long-haired black and white "Sylverster cat". She is the one I am mentioned above that tried to protect me.

In her defense,I HAD just blacked out and fallen face-forward into the plywood floor with no warning earlier that night. No real warning at all. That pretty much  had all the cats freaked out.

 I did know I had some sort of health issue and needed to call the Rescue Squad,but decided I needed to go empty my clothes drier first and make sure it was shut off. Last thing I remembered was wondering why the floor was so close to my face. Came to some unknown time later and wondered why I was face down in the floor,and my forehead was bleeding. That was probably what had her freaked out.

Came to some unknown time later,got up and took no chances this time,although for some reason I called my ex first and told her i was getting ready to call the rescue squad. We MIGHT have had something planned the next day. Can't remember now. I do remember she and her sister beat the rescue squad here be several minutes,despite it being less than 2 miles away and them living over 10 miles away and me calling them after 10 PM.

Come to find out after spending more than 3 hours in the Emergency Room waiting to be seen that I had some sort of intestinal bleeding and would have died if it had taken me much more time to get there and be seen.

My ex came over every day I was hospitalized to give food and water to my cats,so that they was taken care of.

Glad I wrote this. I had forgotten all about her coming over to make sure I was ok,and then coming over for several days to feed the cats and even visit me in the hospital a couple of times. Since the hospital is over 50 miles away from her home and in another state,that was a pretty big deal.

Come to find out,we get along pretty damn  good,as long as we are not living together.

Come to find out,we get along pretty damn  good,as long as we are not living together.
When I taught up north we had parent teacher conferences one day. A couple came in to talk about their son. O made a comment about being married and they both began to crack up. They explained that they had been married for about 5 years and gotten divorced. They loved each other and their son but just could not live together. D@MNEDEST thing I saw that year.
