The idea that somebody looked at a purple onion and called it a red onion really bothers me.

I've had a life-long love affair with music.

It started before I left Cuba with a blind old man who lived next door. He was a retired professional trumpet player and I'd hear him play all the time. I ended up playing trumpet myself.

This is music from my first true musical icon, from a movie I've probably seen more than 50 times since the first time I watched it in Cuba. This is my favorite performance from that movie, and my all-time favorite piece of music.

MARYLAND CRAB CAKES -

1 large egg
2½ tablespoons mayonnaise
1½ teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup finely diced celery
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
1 pound lump crab meat*
½ cup panko
Canola oil

1. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.

2. Combine the egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire, Old Bay, salt, celery, and parsley in a large bowl and mix well. Add the crab meat (be sure to check the meat for any hard and sharp cartilage) and panko; gently fold mixture together until just combined, being careful not to shred the crab meat. Shape into 6 crab cakes (about ½ cup each) and place on prepared baking sheet. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

3. Preheat a large nonstick pan to medium heat and coat with canola oil. When oil is hot, place crab cakes in pan and cook until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per side. Be careful as oil may splatter. Serve immediately with tartar sauce or a squeeze of lemon.

Quick Tartar Sauce
Ingredients

1 cup mayonnaise
1½ tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon minced red onion
1-2 tablespoons lemon juice, to taste
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Directions

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Cover and chill until ready to serve.

That is still hilarious after all these years.

Indeed it is!

Looking at what passes as comedy these days, we were so fortunate to have 'grown up' when we did.

Thanks for posting that, Lando!

Wegmans has the mini-brownies...if you sliced them into two layers, you could do it.

I love marshmallow and frosting...or whipped creme with fresh strawberries.   Don't make them enough.

Truth is, the fruit is basically tasteless. It's void of sweetness and is sour and tart.

But these look darned good!  Yum!

Most of the strawberries you buy are huge and like you say, tasteless.    I tried growing my own one year and the deer loved them!   8888crybaby

These are good and fun for a holiday party - I have made them several times and they are so cute and they taste good.  They're made of black olives, cream cheese and carrots.  You can make a cheese ball igloo too - too cute!
