Winter weather forecast predicts El Niño will bring US crazy storms, cold beaches and desert rains

It may be the middle of August, but to quote “Game of Thrones,” winter is coming — and this one could be wet and wild.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its 2026-2027 winter weather predictions, and it warns of colder temperatures in the south, icy days up north, and sudden downpours in the middle of the desert — thanks partly to the El Niño climate pattern, which is back after three years.

Here’s how winter could shape up for your region — if the predictions come to fruition.

The bottom line: Be ready for anything

“Winter 2026–2027 may be defined by contrasts: an active and wet southern storm track, quick bursts of snow and cold across the North, and a particularly unpredictable mix of precipitation in the Northeast,” the Almanac predicts.

“Keep the snow shovel, rain boots, and ice scraper close at hand. This winter, you may need all three.”

I'm so sick of snow and bitter cold temperatures.
I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
"Cold, snowy at times, breezy"

Are you kidding me? That describes North Dakota from the second week of September to the middle of June, but just "breezy"?  :silly:

Yeah, those 40 knot breezes are something, alright. **nononono*

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
