Two school officials in Washington state have been charged with gross misdemeanors for allegedly refusing to report to authorities a claim by a girl wrestler of an alleged sexual assault at the hands of a male wrestler against whom she was forced to compete.
The case developed in the Puyallup School District, where court records say Jason Smith, 55, principal of Rogers High School, and Peter Collins, 49, athletic coordinator, each was named in a case in Pierce County District Court.
The boy, purportedly a "transgender," had been allowed to compete in the girls events, and the two officials allegedly failed to comply with the state's mandatory reporter law.
