Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minnesota, will be used by ICE, company confirms
CoreCivic announced the finalized contract, which is slated for use by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for five years, on Tuesday morning.

ST. PAUL — The idle Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minnesota, will be used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a news release confirmed.

Speculation about ICE using the facility began last summer. The facility houses 1,600 beds.

CoreCivic, a company that owns several immigration detention centers across the country, made the use official in a Tuesday, Aug. 4, news release. The contract begins Aug. 11 and will last for five years, according to CoreCivic.

"While this facility has been idle since 2010, we have made investments to help ensure an efficient reactivation in the event of a new contract,” Patrick D. Swindle, CoreCivic's Chief Executive Officer, said in the release. “The geographic location of this facility, similar to our other recent contract awards, improves our ability to support our government partner throughout the United States."

CoreCivic said they expect to begin receiving detainees in the fall or winter of 2026, with the “full ramp” to be completed by the spring or early summer of 2027.

Illegals housed there will all have at least queen size beds and smart TVs, won't they?
