How Close We Actually Came.
What COVID Proved About the American Spine

The Last Wire

A free society is not tested when times are easy. It is tested when fear arrives, uncertainty spreads, and government power expands in the name of protecting the public.

The COVID years revealed something uncomfortable about America. The tanks never came. No revolution happened. Instead, millions discovered how quickly emergency powers could become accepted habits, and how easily liberty could be exchanged for promises of safety.

This is not an argument that America became Cuba. It did not.

It is an argument that COVID exposed a weakness every republic must confront: power does not always arrive through force. Sometimes it arrives through a crisis, a press conference, and a population willing to comply.

The question is not whether America survived.

The question is whether we learned the lesson.

Read it here at The Last Wire today!

"The growth of knowledge depends entirely upon disagreement." — Karl Popper

“Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place." — Frederic Bastiat

Yes, it proved at least half of America are sheep, willing to do anything “government” says.

They are communist traitors at heart.  They fully embraced this control.

Simultaneously, they never criticized scumbag rioters nationwide destroying and assaulting for months and months.  In fact they celebrated enabled and condoned it all, and never a peep about how RIOTERS are violating COVID tyranny.

They are true communist hater traitors.  Believe it.  Half your neighbors are exactly this.
Common sense is an uncommon virtue.

I recognized it for what it was day one and have never said anything else.

Thanks Luis ! You have a way with words.

I came this close to taking the jab... but my distrust managed to keep me from it... Glad my job did not teeter in the balance.

I'm not as pessimistic.  The COVID fiasco woke a lot of people up about the government and it's bureaucrats willingness to go to any lengths necessary to crush their liberty.  Fauci's performance before the Senate last week was the icing on the cake.  The usual suspects in the Democrat party will capitulate, but we won't see the mass dropping to the knees we saw in early 2020.
I don’t owe tolerance to people who disagree with my existence.
I will NOT comply.

I would like to believe that is true, but we went from "Never Forget" on 9/11 to Mamdani as NYC Mayor within the same generation. I'm becoming rather cynical in my old age.

Most Americans are not New Yorkers, and they think people who are, are idiots.  And, I'll remind you that seven years after 9/11 the entire country elected somebody named "Hussein" President!

Fair point.  As I understand it, many people who live in New York outside of NYC are not what we think of as "New Yorkers", either.

Hey, my state was part of the red on that map!  But yes, you are making my point better than I did, so thank you.

I look at it this way...at the time no one knew what we were dealing with and most people were screaming "DO SOMETHING!!". So they came up with restrictions to make people think they were safe. Of course it all turned out to be bunk but hindsight is 20/20.

Myself, I didn't take the jab but did limit my exposure to people during the time.
