Atlantic magazine's Jonathan Chait recently experienced a brief flirtation with political sanity when he expressed panic over the possibility of communists (who now call themselves socialists) taking over his beloved Democrat Party.

However, alas, poor Chait relapsed and embraced one of the most fervent Mad Hatter delusions of the extreme left, as you can see in the very title of his Wednesday descent down the Socialist (Communist) rabbit hole: "Abolishing the Senate Might Be the DSA’s Best Idea."

The subtitle assures no return trip for Chait, who just flushed away the concept of American federalism: "A teardown of the upper chamber would be good for American democracy."

The US Senate is not functiong because of the stupid 60 vote filibuster.  If they won't go back to simple majority rule, we might as well eliminate that body.

Without the senate and electoral college, our national elections become events where candidates will only focus concentrated population centers.

Just what the less than slime dims want.

Chait is down there, right next to Noam Chomsky.

The US Senate needs to make itself useful again by stop obstructing progress because of an extra-Constitutional super-majority construct.

If the Founders wanted the US Senate to have a super-majority to pass everyday legislation, they would have put it in Article I of the US Constitution or in an Amendment.

RINO chuffs:

I have to agree with you on this.
The Senate could again become a useful and functioning body of government -- but only once the [inherently unconstitutional] 60 vote filibuster rule is repealed.

Others will jump on me for the "inherently unconstitutional" remark, but my reasoning is this:
The Constitution itself defines a very few instances where the concept of "supermajorities" may be used. Beyond that, the 50%+1 standard applies. Everywhere else.

The filibuster rule may fall under the extreme letter of the Constitution that permits the Senate to set its rules.
But... it violates the spirit of that document... completely.

Time to get rid of it.
That's EXACTLY what the left will do when it gets power again, but there are dunderheads in here who will say it ain't so...
