I just don't understand this...why does this keep happening?
I know I've mentioned this before, but it really stuck with me. A long time ago, I worked with a several black folks in what might be called a blue-collar occupation. One day, we were all taking a break when they started talking about the good ol' days in their neighborhoods - what now might be termed the hood - and how children of their generation were so much better behaved than the current generation. Every single one credited parents (most homes had two parents) who cared enough to administer discipline to their offspring. They had absolutely nothing negative to say about receiving a whupping whenever it was deserved. Of course, nowadays, your little darling will call family services on you if you deliver even a smack.
This generation, white and black, has too many one-parent households, parents who cannot or will not discipline their kids, parents who never take their children to church, parents who don't require kids to study or do household chores.
