Democratic socialists top MAGA candidates among voters in CNBC’s All-America poll
Published Fri, Jul 17 20267:15 AM EDTUpdated 2 Hours Ago

Garrett Downs

More voters would be more likely to support a democratic socialist candidate than a Make America Great Again supporter or a candidate endorsed by President Donald Trump, the CNBC All-America Economic Survey found.

The findings may allay concerns of centrist Democrats, who have been worried about the leftward shift of primary winners in 2026.

The poll indicates that even with a number of self-described democratic socialists on the ballot, Democrats will have the upper hand heading into November’s midterm election, which is widely viewed as a referendum on Trump.

Capitalism remains more popular than socialism in the U.S., the poll found, but has declined in public sentiment in recent years as socialism has gained.

The poll found that 32% of registered voters would be more likely to vote for a candidate if they describe themselves as a democratic socialist, while 50% would be less likely to vote for such a candidate. Twenty-nine percent of voters would be more likely to vote for a candidate with Trump’s endorsement, while 52% would be less likely. A candidate who describes themself as a supporter of the MAGA movement does even worse, with only 27% of voters saying that would make them more likely to vote for them and 57% saying it would make their vote less likely.

CNBC’s All America poll was conducted on July 8-12 with 1,000 registered voters in the U.S., in conjunction with Hart Research Associates and Public Opinion Strategies. It has a margin of error of +/-3.1%.

Many of the democratic socialists set to be on the ballot this year are calling for increased taxes on the wealthiest in America to fund universal healthcare, a higher minimum wage and universal basic income.

I’m not surprised

If Americans felt the Trump economy was working for them, especially younger Americans, this probably wouldn’t be the case. And Trump’s severe denial about the state  of the economy and the affordability crisis   is not going to  help his candidates come fall.

More and more Americans are falling behind. The average age for first time home ownership has gone up. Groceries and gas have become more expensive.

Not every democrat that’ll run this year will be a democratic socialist.  But expect to see more of them in the HOR come January.  The Senate, even if that switches hands , will be somewhat of a check on the House of Representatives ambitions next year for a while.

Voters will experiment with everything until they find something that works for them.

Who doesn't want free stuff on someone else's dime?

The youngins have no first-hand memory of the failed policies of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s or of the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact.

The youngins are angry, struggling, and desperate, and the Dem Establishment is doing nothing to address their issues.  The Dem Establishment is too busy appeasing its older, richer donors and candidates.

The Dem gerontocracy is being torn down by the DSA.

With the anti-Trump drum beating 24/7 from ABCNNBCBS and on Fecebook and even twitter (where it at least has some pushback if you read the comments) it's small wonder that people who get their "news" from social media are focused on things which make them think nothing is working for them. After all, that's all they hear and no one is pointing out any gains or good news.

I bought eggs for $2.19 today for an 18 count. Just before Trump got into office, that would have cost over $7.

But no progress will be noticed, and (especially in cities where the FSA just elected more parasites to rob them of their sustenance--and nothing is free unless you don't belong in the US), people aren't going to run the numbers and see if they've gained, they're just going to lap up the dog vomit they call "news" and have the delivery guy bring their groceries while they whine on the internet about how bad they've got it.

So you believe the economic anxiety Americans are experiencing is all  just in their heads? The fault of the media?

That should sell to voters

Well, the "Climate Crisis" did.

If voters are dumb enough to believe ABCNNBCBS and "I saw it on the internet" over what they see in their hands and pockets, we deserve the gummint we get. (God help us).

First of all it's a CNBC poll so there is reason to suspect liberal bias.

Frankly, with all the sheer lunacy of the DEM party, fraud, election cheating and socialists in key places like Dearborn, MI, NYC and Minneapolis trying to destroy our country, I am some what confident that the GOP will pick up some seats in both the House and Senate and they will hold a majority.

It's not just about the cost of eggs or a gallon of gas but preserving our country and Constitution....I'm speaking for myself here and I don't think I am alone in my thinking.

lol

I doubt telling the American people their economic concerns are "just in their heads" is a winning campaign message

How'd that message work for Harris and the Democrats in 2024?

They will just say the election was stolen. They either win or the election was stolen, no other result.

No. What Trump and most Americans polled want, is a free and fair election.

If you can explain how a candidate can get more votes than the number of voters registered to vote, feel free to do so.  I'll be patiently waiting.

Well, the next Congress is going to be more to the left, at least in the House, after January

Senate will not even if Democrats win it so that will keep the crazy in the HOR at bay for a while

WHat in specific are you referring to?
