The Kentucky senator also battled a mild case of pneumonia but says he has unfinished business to complete

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., nearly a month after being hospitalized, revealed what actually happened to cause his absence from the Senate.

In a lengthy statement released Sunday evening, McConnell attributed his childhood fight with polio to a fall he suffered last month which landed him in the hospital. He was "briefly unconscious," he said in an open letter to Kentuckians, and while recovering was hit with a "mild case of pneumonia."

"My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion," McConnell said. "I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages."

Yet, when he will return to the Senate remains a mystery, something that McConnell himself acknowledged.

"As much as it frustrates me, this process takes time. And on the advice of my doctors, I won’t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet," McConnell said. "But rest assured that, in the meantime, I’m not taking a break from the Senate business that matters to you."

His attending physician noted that McConnell has, "experienced several falls throughout the year that have been attributed to his post-polio condition."

His eyes aren't looking at the camera. Or at least one of them isn't.

Having myself been hospitalized more than once, I can tell you that the first thing they do is get you out of your clothes and into a hospital gown, the kind that opens in the back. They don't let you wear a button-front shirt and jeans while perching on a hospital bed. The only time I got to put my clothes back on is when I was ready to leave the hospital.

I guess it's possible that they took this picture just as he was leaving, but if that's the case, why not take it when he got home?  It doesn't make any sense.

*Edit*  Never mind, I saw the X post about the photo being from 2023, when Mitch was at a rehab facility. That makes more sense.

As long as Mitch is not declared legally dead, he's still alive - a sitting US Senator and Chou Chou's husband with all the legal privileges and access afforded to a spouse by the law.

There are legal, political, and economic reasons for those in Mitch's orbit to defer certification of death for as long as possible.

Mitch is vegetable stew until whomever holds power of attorney and legal medical proxy decides to pull the plug ... after certain politlcal legal dates have passed, Chou Chou destroys any documents that may incriminate the Chinese Communist Party, and Chou Chou gets all of Mitchs' assets moved to offshore accounts.

Ironically, Mitch was one of the most politically divisive politicians in DC, and now his passing is mired in poltical intrigue.

That's how US Senators retire these days ... clutching on to their Office with their cold, dead hands as they (figuratively) get wheeled off the US Senate Floor, feet first, on a Medical Examiner's gurney.

It's sad that people like Mitch and Joe Biden subject themselves to aging without dignity.

Very possible, but in the second photo it looks like the sun is coming in through the window, in the first photo the sun is to the side but it doesn't appear to be dawn/dusk.

Are there any adults left at the GOP who are going to take control of the Mitch situation, or will they let the meme-verse drive the media narrative?

The country, and the world, are looking for independent, corroborated proof-of-life.  How long before Mitch is on the back of milk cartons?  Or someone requests a police wellness check or fills out a missing persons report with the police?

This is no way to run a majority party in a Federal Constitutional Republic.
