People in this country have no concept of what poverty is.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Jim Jones was a socialist Democrat.

How much foreign aid does the US provide to Democratic Republic of the Congo?

About $1.41 billion in aid was obligated for fiscal year (FY) 2024, the most recent fully-reported year. Another $157.9 million has been reported for FY 2025. ...

Democratic Republic of the Congo is considered a low income country, according to the World Bank classification system. There are 29 low income countries that received aid, getting 21.3% of US foreign aid provided to individual countries in FY 2024. Democratic Republic of the Congo ranked #1 among the low income countries in terms of aid received, above #2 Ethiopia ($1.33 billion) and #3 Mozambique ($821 million).

All that aid is not enough to encourage them to pick up their own trash.

The guy is a typical American in culture shock ... the Chinese own the Congo. 0.00044 US Dollar is the value of 1 Congolese Franc. The people om the left likely work in the Chinese owned mines.

India is far worse with whole areas set aside in villages where people crap in the middle of the street, dead animal & human bodies float down the Ganges, past people bathing in the river & open-air restaurants, where people are eating ...

The Indian videos are unbelievable and apparently it's not just in a few areas that it's like that.

There was a post on TOS where someone had posted images from their recent trip to India a few years back - what's seen is impossible to unsee.

To be fair, the video reminds me more than a little of footage shot by people driving along the streets of Portland, Oregon.

I was thinking of the rail lines through LA where the usual suspects had been breaking into containers and looting them.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Years ago when I ran Conrail freight trains from Oak Point yard in the South Bronx to Selkirk (sw of Albany), going through the Port Morris connection (connected with Hudson line north) in the Bronx looked a lot like that.

There are videos of the Port Morris connection on Youtube...
