In a clip now circulating widely (originally shared by RNC Research), Keith Ellison made the jaw-dropping claim while defending socialist government programs:

"You call the cops, guess who pays them? Your tax dollars. Guess what that is? That's socialism pal! Sorry. You don't contract for your own private police department…"

WATCH:

Minnesota AG Keith Ellison suggests Americans who call the police are engaging in socialism:

The top law enforcement official in Minnesota, the man supposedly responsible for upholding the rule of law, is now telling citizens that dialing 911 for help is an act of socialism.

There is a graphical meme making its way around the Left-wing Blogosphere right now which lists a variety of government services and functions, and claims that they are examples of "socialism" (so why are people opposed to socialism?).

Examples include police, sanitation, fire stations, roads and bridges, libraries, public schools, hospitals, welfare benefits, etc.

The obvious problem here is that these are examples of state, local and municipal services paid for voluntarily by taxpayers. They are NOT equivalent to "socialism", which is a governing political and economic system involving the seizure of private property, confiscatory taxation and control of the means of production of goods and services...  the demonstrated results of which are shortages, hunger, poverty and repression.
"If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people."    -Calvin Coolidge

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
So Keith Keith Keith, where per chance do those tax dollars come from?

Asking for a friend.
The Republic is lost.
