Colbert Reportedly 'Heartbroken' After CBS Firing: 'This Wasn't Just a Job – It Was His Identity'

Cue the world’s tiniest violin.

According to Naughty but Nice, a Substack account run by entertainment-gossip journalist Rob Shuter, longtime late-night fixture Stephen Colbert has felt “heartbroken” since the final episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” aired on May 21.

“This wasn’t just a job — it was his identity,” a source told Shuter. “Stephen poured everything into that show. Losing it has hit him hard.”

Colbert reportedly has kept to himself in recent weeks. He even appeared glum at the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding over the weekend, Shuter reported.

“He’s always been the one holding everyone else together,” a second source told Shuter. “Now he’s the one who needs time. He’s stepped away to figure out what comes next.”

Poor baby.  Is the Comedy Channel still an option for an unfunny hack?
You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

Colbert got fired because he was too good at his job (whether you like his show or not).

It's a badge of honor to get kicked off TV because a President pressured Big Media Executives who needed Federal approval for a pending business deal.

George Carlin would be over the moon to be fired like that.  As a provocateur, the ultimate success is to provoke the leader of the Free World to personally intervene and use the power of his Office to get you fired.

As a performer, he's probably going through withdrawl of not having instance feedback from an audience.  He's a performer in search of his next stage.

He should spend the Summer visiting with other comedic figures - David Letterman, Dave Chappelle, Seinfeld, Larry David, and others who have been in the business long enough to have been fired a few times and made comebacks.

Boo Freakin' Hoo!

You needn't get so overwrought with emotion.  He'll survive. :banging:

George Carlin was a highly successful comic in his own right, and he worked hard at it, right up until his final chest-grab.  Plus, he didn't have to pay Millions to hire a staff to write his material for him!  Never compare Colbert to Carlin!
