Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao Jets to Beijing to Meet Top CCP Official Just 3 Days After Mitch McConnell’s Cardiac Arrest Hospitalization – China Ties Under Fire Again

Former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao flew to Beijing on June 17, 2026, for a cozy meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, just three days after her husband, Senator Mitch McConnell, was rushed to the hospital following a reported cardiac arrest at their Washington, D.C. home.

Emergency dispatch audio obtained by multiple outlets captured the chaos on June 14: paramedics responded to a “cardiac arrest” call at McConnell’s Capitol Hill residence, with reports of CPR in progress and the 84-year-old senator found unconscious. McConnell was hospitalized that same morning.

His office has offered only vague updates, claiming his condition “continues to improve” and he is receiving “excellent care.” Details about the severity of the incident and his long-term prognosis remain scarce.

While McConnell fought for his life in a hospital bed, his wife was in Beijing schmoozing with the Chinese Communist Party.
