US expands attacks on Iran after death of another American service member

U.S. forces wrapped up a ninth consecutive day of strikes against Iran late Sunday, after an American service member died in Iraq one day earlier.

U.S. Central Command (Centcom) wrote Sunday on social platform X it completed strikes against Iran at 10 p.m. EDT.

The U.S. targeted Iranian military command centers, air defense and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks to “further diminish Iran’s ability to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” the command added.

Over the weekend, a U.S. service member in northern Iraq died during a “controlled detonation” of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone, according to Centcom. Another service member was receiving medical treatment for a “minor” injury from the explosion as of Sunday, the command noted.

The latest death marked the 17th American service member killed since the U.S. and Israel launched the war with Iran on Feb. 28. It also came a day after Centcom said an Iranian attack in Jordan killed two U.S. service members.

President Trump said Sunday the latest strikes on Iran were in “honor” of the three service members killed.

“We hit them very hard again tonight, and we did that in honor of the probably three,” the president told reporters.

The U.S. and Iran have exchanged strikes over the last two weeks, laying waste to the ceasefire both sides agreed to last month. The escalation began when Iranian forces targeted multiple commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Early Monday morning, the Bahrain Defense Force’s General Command said Iran launched another round of attacks against its fellow Middle Eastern country.

The Department of War on Monday identified two U.S. Army soldiers killed in an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

The soldiers were identified as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas.

According to the department, Gonzales was killed on July 17, the day of the attack, while Feehan died the following day, July 18.

Feehan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Gonzales was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany.

The Department of War said the attack remains under investigation.

U.S. Central Command announced late Sunday that U.S. forces successfully completed a ninth consecutive evening of strikes against Iranian targets after earlier confirming the deaths of three American troops in Jordan and Iraq.

"CENTCOM assets targeted Iranian military command centers, air defense and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks to further diminish Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said in a post on X.

"The U.S. military is holding Iran accountable at the Commander in Chief's direction. CENTCOM forces remain highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready," the post continued.

The strikes come after CENTCOM confirmed two U.S. service members were killed in Jordan on Friday during an Iranian attack, while a separate U.S. service member was killed on Saturday in Iraq during a “controlled detonation” of a downed Iranian drone.

President Donald Trump on Sunday paid tribute to U.S. service members killed in recent attacks linked to Iran, saying American forces launched another round of strikes "in honor" of them.

At Joint Base Andrews, Trump also said the service members had sacrificed their lives to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

"Well, we feel very badly. But you know, those great people, those great patriots were out there fighting so that Iran could not have a nuclear weapon," Trump said.

“We hit them very hard again tonight,” Trump said. “And we did that in honor of the” soldiers killed, he said.

President Donald Trump on Monday vowed a strong response after two U.S. Army soldiers were killed in an Iranian attack on a military base in Jordan, saying Iran would face severe consequences for the deaths.

"Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and every Leader in the Military."

Trump's post came after the Department of War identified the two soldiers killed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base it said were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

U.S. Central Command said Sunday that the soldiers were killed in an Iranian attack and that a third soldier remains missing. The Department of War said the attack is still under investigation.

Trump did not provide details about any military response.

The most STUPID thing Trump has ever said is when he told Israel not to retaliate after an Iran attack, "Because nobody got hurt".
He said that because Israel's futuristic defense systems shot down all the missiles Iran fired at them, they should just ignore it.
How many deaths did it take for Trump to wakeup from his Jimmy Carter stupor and to realize that Iran was just playing with him.
Which is something many of us on this board knew from the very start. The majority people knew that a 'deal' was never realistic.

I'm not taking Iran's word.  I am taking Iran's actions - they manged to strike a US base and kill US servicemen.  That's a win for them.

Yeah, we dropped more bombs, but, that's more of the same.  The Iranians are familiar with our propensity to drop bombs, our hesitancy to put ground troops at risk, our lack of imagination to persistently attack via multiple asymmetrical vectors simultaneously, our short attention spans, and a Western press that will propagandize on their behalf.

Iran won't unconditionally surrender.  They may claim they want a ceasefire to discuss unconditional surrender, but that will be a ploy to buy them time to reload.

The Iranian regime and the IRGC are going to need to be toppled by civil war.
